Miller took sides with Col. Metealf, and against Cyrus Leland. What do we have men in such high places for if it is not to keep a watchtul eye on the way things are running, and when in their opinion a change is needed, to not ouly give their consent but suggest it to the higher power? Of course us old soldiers would rather have had a A. R. man appointed as pension agent, but if it is for the best interests of the Republican party to have Col.

Metcalf, we have nothing to say. Now, about J. A. Kennedy; what has he done that the people of this district should put him in the place of J. M.

Miller? He has not heen a stalwart Republican in a single camipaign for tifteen years; he has pandered to the Populists and to the Democrats; in other words, he has been a mug- in some part of every campaign, while we know that Hon. J. M. Miller is a Republican, first, last and all the time, and he has just been in Congress long enough to learn how to be of use to us. Would it not be a very foolish thing for us to let him out now and put a man in his place whose record is none the best anyhow, and is green to the ways of Congress? It would take him two terms to get where Mr.

Miller is, and then be would not be any such a man, and we would lose all that time and be paying him for getting his education. Now it seems very much as if it would be for the better to keep the man there who is already educated, and that we know beforehand will always be found doing his duty. H. A. PERRY.

Wabaunsee. Feb. 10th. Death of John W. Stambaugh.

Early Monday morning, Feb. 3rd Kaw Valley received the sad news of the death of John W. Stambaugh, one of our most highly esteemed citizens. Though his death was not wholly un expected, it came as a blow to those who had long known him and realized the loss the community would sustain when he should be called to go. He was born in Elliotsburg, Perry Penn Feb.

22, 1860, and came to Kansas in March 1885, where he resided on on a farm near St. Marys until his death. He was married Sept. 26, 1888 to Joie Van Syckle. He leaves a wife and three sons, Harmon, Emmet and Verne to cherish his memory: also a stepmother, brother and sister.

Ed Stambaugh and Mrs. Alice Huble in Pennsylvania. The funeral services were held at Kaw Valley M. E. church, conducted by Rev.

Ryan, who preached a very appropriate and comforting sermon from the text found in Rev. 14 13 The body was then taken to Greenwood cemetery for interment. Mr. Stambaugh became a member of the U. B.

church in Feb. 1889, after. wards transferring his membership to the Kaw Valley M. E. church, o1 which he has ever lived a devoted and consistent member.

Though in person he is gone, yet he still lives in the deeds which he performed, in the life he lived, and in the many lessons he bas left behind. How true the words "None of us hveth to himself" for others are affected by that life; "or dieth to himself" for others are interested in that death. We can find no better, truer words with which to express the esteem in which this one was held, than the following lines: "Green grow the turf above thee, Friend of our better days; None knew thee but to love thee, Nor named thee but to praise." C. Sunday School Notice. The executive committee of the Wabaunsee County Sunday School Association will meet soon to arrange the program for the next annual convention, to be held at Alma in April.

Pastors, superintendents or secretaries are requested to let Sec. I. H. Hopps know from every Sunday school in the county just what help their schools will furnish, and to send the paines of those who will prepare papers, deliver addresses or give reci- tations. Following is the report of Dist.

DO YOU GET UP WITH A LAME BACK Kidney Trouble Makes You Miserable.

Almost everybody who reads the newspapers is sure to know of the wonderful cures made by Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root, the great kidney, liver and bladder remedy. It is the great medical triumph of the nineteenth century; discovered after years of scientific research by Dr. Kilmer, the eminent kidney and bladder specialist, and is wonderfully successful in promptly curing lame back, kidney, bladder, uric acid troubles and Bright's Disease, which is the worst form of kidney trouble. Dr.

Kilmer's Swamp- Root is not recominended for everything but if you have kidney, liver or bladder trouble it will be found just the remedy you need. It has been tested in so many ways, in hospital work, in private practice, among the helpless too poor to purchase relief and has proved so successful in every case that a special arrangement has been made which all readers of this paper who have not already tried it, may have a sample bottle sent free by mail, also a book telling more about Swamp-Root and how to find out if you have kidney or bladder trouble. When writing mention reading this generous offer in this paper and CONN send your address to Dr. Kilmer Binghamton, N. Y.

The HE regular fifty cent and Home of Swamp-Root. dollar sizes are sold by all good druggists. On account of the scarcity of hogs and the lugh price of feed, we believe it will be more satisfactory to the seller as well as to ourselves to receive hogs on one certain day of the week. By so doing we can afford to handle them on a less margin which will certainly be very satisfactory to the seller. Hereafter we will ship every Monday night, and in order to get the best price, bring in your hogs on that dav.
