When a person is losing flesh and wasting away there is cause for alarm Nothing so worries a physician. Consumptives would never die if they could regain Jtheir usual weight. In fact there would be no consumption if there was no wasting of the system. The cause of this loss of flesh is a failure to properly digest the food eaten. Nine-tenths of all our diseases date back to some derangements of the stomach.

The Shaker Digestive Cordial will stop this wasting of the body. It "acts by causing the food we eat to be digested so as to do good, for undigested food does more harm than good. The Cordial contains food already digested and and is a digester of foods as well Every mother hates to make her children take Castor Oil. C. T. U. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union Holds Its County Convention. The county convention of the W.

C. T. U. was held on March 4th, 1897, at the home of Mrs. Frank Weaver.

The meeting was called to order at 10:30 by the president Mrs. S. K. Miller. Mrs.

Dr. Humphrey opened the programme with a beautiful organ solo, after which the devotional exercises were led by Mrs. Hull, her subject chosen was "The Opportunities we Have for Doing Good." The lesson was very beautiful and helpful; several earnest prayers followed and the hymn "What a Friend we Have in Jesus" was sung. After the devotional exercises and a few reports had been read the meeting adjourned for dinner, which was very bountifully provided for by the ladies of the Union. At 2:00 o'clock the meeting was again called to order by the president.

A banjo and organ duett by Mrs. Dr. Humphrey and Miss Miller was very much enjoyed, after which a hymn was sung and prayer offered. Then came the reports from the several departments of work. Mrs.

Mary Holmes, our secretary, gave a very full and interesting report of the work done in the county. Mrs. Dr. Armstrong gave a good report of work done in the mercy department. A select reading entitled "Mother," by Mrs.

Charles McAdams, was very much enjoyed. As the treasurer, Mrs Myra Brown was absent, her report was read by the secretary. Report of temple work, was read by Mrs. Armstrong, the president of that department being absent. An interesting report from Gypsum City of the Ii.

was read by Mrs. J. T. Wells; a very pretty poem was read by Mrs. Crawford.

A full report of press work for the past six months was given by Mrs J. T. Wells, president of that department. "A Word as to the Sunday Mail" was jead by Mrs. Hull, after which another banjo and organ duet was rendered.

Rev. Foulkes addressed the Union for about twenty minutes on the subject of Temperance. His talk was very interesting and to the point, urging us to more earnest work in the future and offered some very good sug gestions which were appreciated. He also tendered greetings from the Ministerial Association to the Women's Christian Temperance Union. A motion was made that a vote of thanks be extended to the editors for so kindly publishing our reports and announcements free of charge.

Mrs. J. T. Wells and Mrs. Buff qm were elected as delegates to the W.

C. T. U. convention to be held at Abilene the first and second of April. Mrs.

Hull and Miss Emma Harvey were elected as alternates. The following resolutions were read before the Union, after which the convention closed with music and prayer. RESOLUTIONS.
