Immediately upon the announcement that Lane was to speak to the Citizens of Wyandotte County, on Friday evening, crowds began to assemble about the Garno House at quite an early hour, and by eight o'clock, one of the largest gatherings ever had in Wyandotte County was assembled, The meeting was organized. Mayor Cobb presiding, who at once introduced General James II. Lane, who was received wrh three rousing cheers. He dgpici-ed vividly the danger to which Kansas is now exposed from thft gathering and threatening armies of Texas Arkansas and Missouri, and urzed that immediate and prompt efforts were mjie to. repel these threatening invasions, yet be lost.

Hsta'ed that we could" gef no. help in men from the General Government, but must rally manfully to the call of the President, and in this dark hour of danger, heln our country by helping ourselves. The clear and convincing arguments in support of the Government, and the assurances that henceforth the war is to be conducted with and a purpose to crush nut the rebellion and crush everything that stands in the way, were received with round upon round of applause. For nearly two hours the General held his audience, in enthusiasm, and rapture by his fine oratory, logic and humor, and closed by a fervent appeal to eveixraan to rally to the call of his country in this her hour of trial.
