He was born in Jefferson county, Iowa on Feb. 29th 1836 and on Jan. 1st 1863 was united in marriage to Miss Mary McCracken. In 1876 they moved to Missouri and in 1879 the family moved to Kansas. For the past three years the family has resided in this county.

His wife and seven children, Mrs. Minsie Green of Burlington, Colorado, Mrs. Susie Schull of Sedalia Missouri, Mack Harris of Lodgepole, Nebraska, Frank Harris of Brewster, Kansas, James, William and Miss Jessie of this city, live to cherish the memory of a father's love and devotion. We join in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives Communicated We noticed in last week's issue of the Patriot something in regard to the appointment of a janitor for the court house, in which it was stated that Fred Schutz, Commissioner from the 1st. district, had been' carefully advised' beforehand.

Now the facts of the matter are these: Fred Schutz is a man with no political debts to pay, a man who the people of the First District elected because they knew that he could not be influenced to do some things that the "Would-be-politica? Bosses'! would want him to do. regardless of what it would mean to the county. He is a man who thinks about the effect any measure that comes before him to be decided, will have on the county treasury, more than his does about the DOlitical complexion of the appointee. In making the appointment of janitor for the court house Fred Schulz acted in the matter in the way that he thought was best and when a man does that, he should be commended instead of censured as it takes a fearless man to withstand the attacks of the "'Would-be-political Bosses.13 Instead of being' "carefully advised" in the matter the facts are that Fred Schutz refused to allow some of the to carefully advise him.
