County Superim tendent Spear assisted by Miss Emma Duinond and Me Whealen There were twenty eight candidates in sixteen for certificates ani twelve for diplomas A certificate wa granted to all applicants for same but we would earnestly call the attention of all teachers to the necessity of rais ing the grades on your certificates The student teacher is the one that meets with the best success the earn est hard working teacher followiiig the true principle of teaching viz from the known to flip upj is the one that Is going to awaken an earnest desire on the piiri of the pupil to investigate and seek tif ter knowledge for hirnself This de sire if kept alive will enable him to go through life acquiring knowledge not only from books but from all out? ward sources of education It is not always how much we teach that marks our success but the kindling of an am bition to acquire learning on the part of the pupil is the better criterion to judge by To those who took the examination for diplomas the Board would say they were well pleased with the manner in which all took up the work This be ing the first examination of the kind of course the work was new and al though none received diplomas the re sult of your examination is a credit to yourselves and teachers If the conditions of tlie State Course are not strictly enforced the main 0l ject of the Course will be lost This object is to elevate and grade our pub lie schools so that we may establish' mile posts as it were and thus be aided to note the progress ofjcach pn pil We predict that another year lints county will graduate a largo clas? and to the pupils wo would say do no? under value these diplomas Willin' theypequire a higher standing than ft' majority of Third grade teachers they will admit you to the reshman Class of the Agricultural College at' Manhattan or to any High school in the state without being examined' therefore it is very necessary that each applicant conform to the requirements of the Stat Course hi this its Infancy In order that they may bo enabled to do this we must have teachers alive their work And we would urge those teaching and those expecting to teach to attend the institute to be held In Atwood July 14th ami allow no op portunity to pass for learning all yott can of methods of teaching or of Un parting knowledge already gained BelleJfeau Grain COAL AND Stock
