Page Four THE SUN DIAL Tuesday, May 20, 1952 future s.h.sers sterling Wins Exhibits Shown Seniors Will Dearest Possessions To Juniors, faculty We, the Seniors of 1952 being of unstable minds, but sound bodies, do hereby bequeath those things dearest to each and every one of us, to the loyal Juniors and faculty. The Seniors decided to leave Shields to some worthy cause and we decided The High School and the Junior Class were as worthy as any. To Howell we leave the fond memories of History Class, also our text books We're sure they'll make a nice big bonfire. Dee Adam wills her sweet smile to Daryl Murphy in hopes he'll put it to good use. To JoAnn Koblitz Marju Bakis wills her quiet ways, of course we know she doesn't need them.

Verna Lee Bast Scatpn wills her apartment to Sharon Hodgson for her parties just in case she needs it. 1 Betty Morton wills her giggles to Bill Armstrong be careful. Bill, they may get you in trouble. To Lois Timbers Bonnie Morton wills her most sacred possession; her rides after dark; also included in this are 20 favorite parking places, just in case she and Don can use them. Jerry Partington wills her quiet parties to Mary McGill Take heed Mary, you may be sorry.

To Byron Taylor Jeanie Paul wills her ability to skip school without getting caught we think he can put it to good use. Marlyn Pflughoft wills her falls on the basement floor in physical education to Betty Cundith You'll find out all about them next year, Betty. Those with perfect attendance this year arc Jimmy Bunn and Donnie Webb. Those who have received 100 in spelling all year are Anita Sue Hobble, Mary Ann Manwarren, Janalyn Hodgson, Marquitta Clifford, Beverly Gcist and Ann Brown. Final assembly was held this morning, May 20.

The junior high band played. There was a formal introduction of the kindergarten to the first grade and of the new kindergarten. Awards were presented, after which the girls' glee club sang. Grade curds were distributed following the program. Mrs.

Tigncr dramatized a reading story for the fifth and sixth grades Thursday. Mrs. Harris' class had a picnic yesterday. Stephen Glen has been out of school because of an operation. Miss Stucky's room had a picnic yesterday afternoon at Mary Ann Fitzpatrick's grandparents' farm.

Chase beat the junior high boys 20-12 arid they, won over Lyons 26-25 in Softball. A skating party was enjoyed by the seventh grade Monday, May 5. The junior high girls' softball team won over the Chase girls 28-8. Substitutes for Mr. Shields and Mrs.

Buchanan on Monday were Mrs. Henrie and Mrs. Harry Porter. "Where's the car, dad?" asked the son of an absent-minded professor. "Why, dear me, I really don't he said, scratching his head in an effort to recall the past.

"Did I take it out?" "You certainly did, you drove it downtown this morning." "Well, now, that is quite remarkable," said the professor. I remember now that after I got out I turned 'round to thank the gentleman who had given me the lift and wondered where he had gone." Mildred Carris wills her way with certain men to Cynthia Blackhall; watch out Cynthia they won't do you any good. To Shirley Nichols Bill Culbertson wills his arguments in American History. Of course we know she doesn't need them.

Virginia Fulton wills her Southern Drawl to Don Taylor He looks like the type. David Kilbourn wills his curly locks to Harold Riner we think a Mohawk would look pretty cute curled. Carol Laughlin wills her girlish figure to Gracie Hollowell With this goes her book on "The Correct Way to Reduce." To Ray Laughlin-Wilbur McAllaster wills his red hair and freckles; we thought it'a add something to his fair complexion. Jane Ann McCrum wills her poodle cut to Florene Reynolds don't be surprised if they start feeding you dog biscuits. Jay McNeil wills his feminine step to George Ticherior we thought it'd look cute on him.

Track Meet May 5 The Little River 5th annual track meet was held Monday, May 5 at Little River. Teams that were entered were Sterling, Gene-sco, Little River and Windom. Sterling had 55 points, Little River and Geneseo both had 54 points, and Windom had 11 points. 120 yard high hurdles Meet record held by Supnvam, Mound-ridge, time :16 McAllaster, Sterling; Bcllomy, Sterling; Monroe, Geneseo; Gustus, Little River. Time 18.3.

High jump Bennett, Sterling; tie for second. Highest in shorthand was Jane Ann McCrum who received a 100 word pin. Eighty word pins went to Dee Adam, Marju Bakis and Sue Henry. Mr. Shields handed track letters to David Kilbourn, Paul Bellomy, James Savage, Dale Neaville, Bill Armstrong, Lewis Bennett, Dwight Bennett, and Wilbur' McAllaster.

Music letters given by Mr. Lanning were earned by Cynthia Blackhall, Bill Calderwood, Georgetta Carinder, Mildred Carris, Caroldine Caywood, Betty Engelland, Peggy Fulton, Jerry Goodwin, Sue Henry, Marilyn Heter, Grace Hollowell, Ray Laughlin, Marilyn Leonard, Georgie Mathes, Bonnie Morton, Donna Powers, Joan Powers, Glenn Renollet, Donna Santee, Put Stricklin, Aldia Sutton, Dolores Taylor, Lois Timbers, and Dorothy Vagts. First chair pins were awarded to Sue Henry, Marilyn Heter, Bonnie Morton, Joan Powers, Pat Stricklin, and Aldia Sutton. A senior music award was given by Mr. Henrie.

By a candle-light ceremony National Honor Society pins and certificates were given by Mr. Henrie to Verna Seaton, Donna Santee, Marju Bakis, Bill Culbertson, Gwen Shumway, and Melvina Jones. As the name of each member was called and went forward, a list of that member's activities was read. Each was given a candle At Open House Thursday, May 8 Doughnuts And Coffee Served To 100 Guests Open House with a wealth of exhibits was held at the high school beginning at 8 p.m., May 8. Hobbies Attract Attention Hobbies took first place in attention in Miss Hay's Drawings, painted figurines, autographs of baseball players and their pictures, and pennant collections were some of the hobbies displayed.

Salt shakers, porcelain dogs, and rocks were also hobbies of some of the students. Dwight Bennett's scrapbook on sports was a feature. The book was divided into three sections for basketball, football, and baseball. Programs of games and autographed pictures and letters from players were included. Newspapers made by each member of English II for "Silas Marner," notebooks for "Julius Caesar," and scrapbooks of Abraham Lincoln were displayed.

Wedding Dress Displayed Highlighting the home ec. display was Verna Lee Seaton's wedding dress which she had made. The long-sleeved, white satin gown on a model borrowed from Penney's was displayed against a blue background. Skirts and blouses, dresses, and baby clothes made by the girls encircled the walls. Scrapbooks for family living and for clothing were viewed by the public.

House plans, dress designs, pattern usage demonstration, tea towels, and figurines were exhibited also. Show Commerce Equipment Examples of each student's typing, adding machines, stencil materials, ediphone, filing equipment, and shorthand records were seen by the public in the commerce room. Students operated the machines and explained their manipulation to the parents. Some visitors attempted the operations. See Film in Science Room "Big Tim," a film dealing with roller bearings was shown in the science room.

Textbooks, workbooks, scientific equipment, illus- trated reports, reference books, (Continued on page 5) which was lit by the flame of a large candle in the center of the stage. Marilyn Heter, who was elected a member last 'year, administered the pledge to the new members. A medal and certificate was then presented to each new member. Members of the journalism class were recognized with special pins given by Mrs. Buchanan.

Cub pins for first year work went to Leah Thompson, Marilyn Hodgson, Lewis Bennett, and Shirley Nichols. More advanced pins called "Journeymen" were given to Aldia Sutton for three semesters of journalism and to Dee Adam who was Sun Dial editor for nine weeks. Bonnie Morton and Joan Powers received "Star" pins signifying high achievement for four semesters, Bonnie having served as a Sun Dial editor and as Cub editor and Joan working as one of the Sun Dial editors and as Cub assistant editor. Quill and Scroll pins which can be awarded only to juniors or seniors in the top third of their classes were given to Donna Santee, Cub business manager and a Sun Dial editor, and Melvina Jones, Cub advertising manager. Those participating in tennis this year who will be presented letters by Mr.

Howell are Byron Taylor, captain, Frankie Miller, Curt Bennett, Ben Wegner, Jerry Goodwin, Ray Laughlin, and Martin Maris. Alice Dyke thought and thought to try to think of something to will so finally she decided to will her Wichita rendezvous to Melvina Jones Take heed Melvina, they may prove interesting. Ruby Elliott wills her book entitled "Ten Ways to Catch a Man" to Florence Reynolds Take this to Lyons, Florencie, and use it. Joan Powers wills her technique with college boys to Georgie Mathes we know she is interested in this type of work.

Donna Santee wills her love letters to Danny Manwarren maybe you can get some good ideas from them, Danny. Patsy Stricklin wills all her old boy friends to Marilyn Leonard; ask Patsy for advice on how to get them and keep them. Aldia Sutton wills her book on how to make love in the quiet way to Martin Maris we hope it improves his technique with Lyons girls. Neil Thompson wills his grown-up ways with the women to Bill Calderwood; be careful they may get you in trouble. Dorothy Vagts wills her long legs to Paul Bcllomy so he can get to Lyons faster.

Ben Wegner wills his crew cut it would be a good shade; be sure to teaspoon of oil. Sue Fair wills her fondness of to Gwen Shumway We comb it twice a day and freshmen boys to thought use one Letters and medals were presented to the students and the faculty in the final assembly Tuesday, April 20. Joan Bulkhead Memorial Award was given by Mr. Henrie to Marilyn Heter and to Wilbur McAllaster. The award was a gold medal with the words "All-Round Girl" and "All-Round Boy" inscribed.

Medal for first in the state was awarded to the girls' trio consisting of Cynthia Blackhall, Sue Henry, and Jerry. Partington. Perfect attendance medals were presented to Urve Bakis and Don Williams. Commerce awards of certificates and pins were given by Mr. Williams.

Certificates for typing speeds below 40 were awarded. Typing pins of 40, 50, and 60 were given. Eighty, ninety, and one hundred word pins were the shorthand awards. Forty word typing pins went to Georgetta Carindcr, Caroldirie Caywood, Joyce Fabin, Sue Fair and Donna Powers. Fifty minute pins were earned by Mary McGill and Joanne Braden.

In the typing II class Donna Santee, Marlyn Pflughoft, Marju Bakis, and Melvina Jones won 50 word awards. Jane Ann McCrum was awarded pin for CO words per minute. Typing awards are made on the basis of three 10-minute writings with a minimum of five errors. Shirley Niday Get them while they're young and train them like you want them. We heard Jerry Ritter say the other day that he sure would like to have Frank Farrell's jeep So Frank decided to will it to him so he could go to Lyons every night.

To Jimmy Tilton Sue Henry wills her almost strapless formal; always be sure and wear the straps with it. All the Senior girls will Jerry Goodwin their lost bobby-pins so he can set his crew cut. David Kilbourn wills his green jalopy to Curtis Bennett because we're sure he gets cold riding his motor scooter We're sure that this modernistic car will keep him warmer. Verna Seaton wills her height to Dale Neaville you can store it away for a rainy day in the future. Virginia Fulton wills her long hair to Glenn Renollet so he can keep his ears warm next winter.

Betty Morton wills all her 104 lbs. excess weight to Forrest Riner maybe this will help him get a job as a fat man- in the circus..
