Miss Hattie Ileckethorn is boarding with Archer's. Mr. Shaw and family, Polly Tipton an Myrtle Flora spent Sunday -with Archer's.

Dick Ring spent Sunday with Lafe and Eugene Flora. Elma and Rassie Ring spent Sunday with their parents near Elmdale. Mr. Hill left for Texas Tuesday. He expects to stay about a month.

Mrs. Stansbury spent Friday with Flora. F. D. Entriken called on Mr.

Flora Sunday. Leora Flora called on Mrs. Stansbur Sunday. Myrtle Flora spent Saturday, night with Jessie Archer. Mrs.

Tull and Jane Dow visited at 2 Archer's Thursday. Harold and Vilma Archer, Jake Ring. Mrs. Sackett and daughter Ethel visited with Morse's Sunday. Martin Froeburg returned from North Dakota Tuesday.

Mrs. Morris visited with Mrs. Flora Thursday evening. Susie Cline is helping her sister-in law cook for threshers. D.issie Ferguson spent Wednesday with Mabel and June Morse.

McPherson, Kansas. New Gottland. Special to The Republican. Most of the wheat sowing for this time is a thing of the past. Rev.

G. A. Dorf will attend a conference of the Lutheran ministers of Kansas in Swedesburg, Clay county, this week. Ostlind brothers had a break down with their threshing machine Saturday. They were ready for work again Monday morning.

Rev. Carlson of the Mission church vention was held Saturday evening and the following ticket was nominated: Olof Hedlund, Trustee; Burk, treasurer; Lambert H. Ander son, clerk; Gust Burk and Axel Johnson, justices of the peace; Da vid Bengson and John Ostlind constables. Mrs. Anna Johnson, mother of Mrs.

C. J. A. Nelson and Mrs. Andrew B.

Anderson, died Friday morning at che home of the latter, aged 72 years, 9 months and 1 day. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the New Gottland cemetery beside her husband who preceded her to the land of rest a little over two years ago. Frank Johnson of Nebraska came here to attend his mother's funeral Sunday. Mrs. Oscar Ringberg has gone to Colorado to spend a few days.

A farmer in this vicinity who is long on dollars and cents and also able to stretch his memory back more than ten years and who is afraid of Democratic government has taken out his deposit from the bank and deposited it in a sand bank for safe keeping until he sees how election turns out. Mrs. Rena Jones, Vital Science Heal er, was called to Canton today to treat John Sockwell. Mr. Sockwell is suffering from paralysis.

Marquette Special to The Republican. R. A. Thompson and family spent Sunday with friends and relatives at Lindsborg. Adolph Olson and Robert Nyquist went west bunday evening on a hunting expedition.

W. L. Roney went to K. C. Mon day morning where he will attend the carnival this week.

There is rumor of a 300-barrel grist mill for our town. Two mills will fix us all right here. Miss Elvira Johnson left Monday for Salina where she will attend the Wesleyan college. Chas. Patterson, Carl Holm, Leo Broman and Miss Lillie Bengson went to C.

Monday morning. J. G. Royston made business trip to Chicago the latter part of last week. The foundation for A Ingennan-son's store building is being laid and will soon be ready for the brick.

S. C. Grantz went to McPherson Saturday to spend Sunday with his family. He will move his family here as soon as he has repaired the house on his farm north of town. The lumber for the new depot is on the ground.

We can look for a depot here before severe cold weather arrives. August Erickson has a full force at work on the inside work at the Lutheran church and will have it finished before cold weather sets in. Mrs. Sarah E. Temple of north Main street is making some substantial improvements which adds greatly to the appearance of her home.

Burt and Mr. Shull transacted business iu McPherson Friday. John Cunningham and Lafe Hart hauled hay to Galva last week. All the young folks went to the party at Seday's. It was a surprise and was successfully carried out.

Mr. Rodrick was- in the vicinity of Good Hope Thursday buying cattle. A few from this community attended the party at Middleswartzs last Friday night. All report a jolly time. A number of young folks attended the social at Galva Saturday night.

Cunningham's dance was largely attended Saturday night. Stella and Hallie Burt spent Sunday at Williams'. The Delmore nine went to Doles Park Sunday and defeated the Caycte team by a score of 26 to 6. Although a foot race did come off they kept the ball rolling. Mr.

Strawn, agent of the Chris tian Benevolent Association visited Rev. Webb last week. Grandma Cramer has gone to Ok lahoma to visit Grant Cramer. Tom Bryan who has been sick is able to be out again. Mrs.

Henry Best is on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith are both taking treatment of Dr. Cox of McPherson.

E. E. Finkle of Canton spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Smith.

Mrs. Chas Finkle's sister, Mabel Culp, who spent one summer here with her was married recently to a young farmer of Oklahoma. The net proceeds of the supper giv en Saturday evening by the ladies of the Christian church was S2S. This is to assist in building an addition to the church. Mr.

and Mrs. Geo. Lewis have gone to Illinois, being called there by the death of Mrs. Lewis' brother. Mr.

and Mrs. Walter Brenneman of Big Lake visited relatives here over Sunday. Mrs. Geo. Stevens and Miss Esther Johnson went to Kansas City Saturday night to visit relatives and see the sights of carnival week.

At the state fair at Hutchinson the Galva Hamburg chickens received 11 premiums out of a possible fifteen as follows: 1st and 3rd cock; 1st hen; 1st, 2nd and 3rd cockerel 2nd and 3rd pullet; 1st, 2nd and 3rd pen (same as also 2nd sweepstakes in Mediterranean class which means in a general way the smaller breeds; and 3rd sweepstakes on best pullet of any breed. Money? Not so much as at McPherson fair, as the premiums paid were only about half as large. But Honors? We are very proud of those sweepstake awards also of the way our birds compared with other Hamburgs, especially the traveling birds just fresh from the Iowa and Nebraska state fairs. Frank Wilson exhibited single comb Brown Leghorns and secured two premiums, 2nd cockerel and 3rd pen. Enough to pay expenses and very good considering the competition and the fact that his birds are too young to be fully developed.

Jesse Brenneman went to Chicago last week and from there will see some of the country about the Great Lakes. He has put in a good sum mers work and is now taking a sight seeing trip to which he has been looking forward. Chas. Hill, father of Will Hill of Happy Hollow, died Monday and was buried Tuesday afternoon at McPher son. Mr.

Hill was 86 years old and for many years had been almost help less but was blessed with a good home where he was tenderly and well cared for by his son and daughter-in- law. He was a soldier of the Civil war. The funeral services were held at the house at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Danner of the Methodist church. The bright young man who attempts to kiss a miss in the dark seldom misses the mark.

TOO MANY WIVES Salt Lake City, Oct. 2 The Pres ident of the Mormon church, Joseph F. Smith, was arrested and bound over to the district court today on the charge of living unlawfully with five wives. The complaint was sworn to by a Mormon deputy sheriff, the warrant was served Dy order or a Mormon sheriff and the committin magistrate is also a Mormon. Presi dent Smith was.
