The largest tobacco warehouse in Wis consin was partlv destroyed by fire at Stoughton the other day. Loss 100, 000. The loss falls heaviest on Miller Putnam and Atkinson of Stoughton. Charles Buckley, another suspected mem ber of the gang that robbed the Missouri Pacific train near McNeill, has been brought in. He was arrested near Luling.

This makes eight suspects thus far jailed. The Portuguese Chamber of adopted a motion to suspend Senor Fer reira Almeda for striking the late Minister of Marine in the face during a personal dis pute. J. M. Simpson is going to remove to Pratt county has more lives than a cat. He will remain a citizen of this county and will probably be absent but little of the time if at all. At the residence of Squire Fulton, in King City township, on Sunday, May 2ith, 1887, Mr.

Sherman T. EowIpjmI and Mrs. Flora Shutters were united in the holy bonds of matrimony. Both of McPherson. Mr.

and Mrs. W. W. Russel came down from Marquette Saturday night to pass Decoration Day with friends in the city. They leave for home tonight, and will be accompanied by Miss Hattie Brooks, who will make a brief visit.

Senator Bk is an orator of splendid ability. His speeches yesterday were models of thought, perspicuity and sense, and were most attentively listened to by hundreds of people. Mr. Blue will always find a cordial welcome from McPherson should he ever return. "We don't think that a dance on Decoration Day is in very good taste.

That occasion is the annual repetition of the funeral obsequies of the deadeoldiers, and the solemnities are marreil by the festivities of the dance. There jire enough other days in the year for the dances. Let Decoration Day be reserved for the ceremonies for which it was set apart. The movement for lower freights commends itself to every citizen of this town. Lower freights mean increased commercial advantages and that means more peoplo here and a greater demand for property.

"We suggest that the best way to sell lots is to create a demand for them. If we can get wholesale stores to come here, they will need Main street lots for their business and residence lots for their homes. We cannot get them unless we get lower rates. These rates we can get by a proper effort, a long pull, a strong pull and a pull all together. Before any action was taken in this county toward aiding the proposed Omaha and Gulf, or, as it is sometimes called, Omaha and Southwestern railroad, the banks at this place wrote east to asoertain who the directors were and what backing they had.

The answers came that they were rood business men and abun dantly able to caray out any engagements we might make. Since that the report has come that the Omaha and Southwestern is part of a through line from Chicago, that there will be some Omaha capital invested but that the bulk of the money is English cap ital, and that the work will be pushed as fast as possible. It will necessarily ake some time to build the road as the Omaha end is rough with several large streams to cross.
