Special Agents of Commerce Commission Investigating. The interstate commerce commission has begun an inquiry into the car shortage. The first scene of its investigations will be the northwest, where conditions have been especially bad.

Special agents are now at work looking into matters there and a circular has been distributed widely among shippers asking questions the answers to which, the commission believes, will throw light upon the true causes of the traffic situation. A public hearing will be held at some point on the Hill lines soon, and this will be followed by similar hearings at Chicago and in other parts of the country, at which both railways and shippers will have chances to air their views. The questions submitted are accompanied by a statement from Commissioner Lane. He says the commission has learned that millions of tons of freight are awaiting shipment because shippers cannot get cars, that charges of discrimination in supplying cars are being made, and that it has been decided that an investigation is requisite to ascertain whether the conditions are due to a lack of cars, as the railways assert, or to shortcomings in the road's methods of IUIIEI8MtIHMie3Mai Ladies' fine vici kid shoes, elegantly made, latest style heel and toe shipes, Blucher cut lace, dull kid a fC top, circle band vamp, a first class $2 50 shoe for 41 en's $3.50 Shoes for $2.85 Men's hand sewed, welted soled shoes, foot form last, Blucher bals, regular price $3.
