I.AMTBKLL. Henry Brown, the murderer of Mr. Payne, the bank president, was married aiMiut a month ago to 0110. of the most es tunable young ladies of this- city. Miss Maud Levagood.

There haa been a rumor current here aud elsewhere that the young laity was intimidated uy Brown a threats mat ne would kill her it sbw did not mar ry and that she married him eon trary to her will. The, rumor is without foundation in fact. It was put out for the purpose of adding force to the notion that everybody in Caldwell was afraid oppose anything that Krown might do. Had any such duress oeen attempted in Caldwell by Henry Brown, or anybody else, it would have been known, and had it lieen known, -the man who attemptcc. it would have had short, shrift and speedy transit oy rope.

We have taken a good deal of trouble to fnd a t.py of the Tlmea; tf the 3rd which contained the outrageous slander on our people. No one in town has received a copy. The frsne of the 3rd didn't only copy that was strn here was brought here by uariiecue Campbell. Mr. Witzlebeo fa voreii us wjih a sight of it.

'We Md just long enough to find and hurriedly rad the slander, when to our consternation and regrpt. we were informed, by Barto cue himself, that he was the owner of the lying sheet, and that he was particularly anxious to take it with him to Oklahoma. Why the Joi hxai. of this city, why the Staspard. why the Mayor of this city, who is on the subscription' lint of the Times, didn't get a copy of the delectable sheet, will probably always be a mystery, or at best, will lie subject of conjecture.

Why Barliecue Camptiell should bring to Caldwell the first evidence of the scurrility of thp Times will np.t. perhaps. Ie so, myi-. tenou. rmjt- wn I pare, in guefs hard op, tht.

They agreed on two bridges; one acrofs the Ninnescah, north of Oxford, which will cost the county two thousand dollars, and one across Slate creek, between Oxford and Geuda Springs, at a cost of one thousand dollars to the county. The count orintinir was let totheSunr- ner County Press. We will make no comments at this time. We will have a few remarks to make some day soon. The Commissioners released C.

He is the man who made some bad plays here about three months ago under the noui de plume of Comanche liob, and got Knocked out of time for it. The first thing he did when he got back was to get into the calaboose. He got out on condition that he would leave town at once and stay away.

alias Ben nrst jpubUcabon, May 8, M84. f. I We have iust received intellisrence of the killing of the noted Cheyenne chief and scout Buffalo, at the Dickev ranch on the north fork of the Canadian, some four or five days He was shot dead hySam. Horton, foreman of the Dkkev ranch. It seems that jwith some fifteen or twenty Cheyenne Indians, went up to the Dickey camp alout eiarht miles altove Cantonement, and demanded beef of the foreman.

Ilorton rave the Indians one beef, and they went off into the woods and killed it. ComJnir back soon after they demanded more lieef, and Horton flatly refused to pivc it to them. Buffalo went into the herd and drove out a number of cattle. Horton rounded them up and drove them back into the herd. Old Buffalo went into the herd again to drive out cattle after being fairly warned by Horton uot to do bo, and persisting in his theft, Horton shot him dead.

The affair caused a srrcat deal of excite- nient down in the Territory. The authorities sent a bodjr of Indian scouts ia arrest Horton, and he refused to surrender to them. He sent word to the authorities that he would not surrender to the Indians, but that he would surrender to a white officer with a sufficient force to protect him. At last accounts he was still on the ranch and had not surrendered. Horton was riirht.

He ousht never to surrender to the Indians. To do so simply meant that he should be murdered, perhaps tortured and mutilated. Any white man who would send Indian scouts to arrest him is no better than the Indians themselves. Ilorton did no more than his whole duty. He found a thief stealing the cat tle or his employer.

He tried to make him stop it. The thief persisted, and Horton shot him. Matters have reached point in the Indian Territory where white men must begin to protect themselves and their property. For a lone time the Indians have been in the habit of raiding the ranches, and taking whatever their fancy misrht suinrest, aud the own ers of the property have been compelled to submit for fear that the authorities at Washington, throuirh the influence of the Indian agents, would eject them from the Territory. The cattle men haye been systematically robbed by the Indians, and a good many of the herders have been murdered by these brates, which the gov ernment protects in their rascality.

The nine oas come wncn ine came men must protect themselves, drive the red thieves off of their ranches. Bully for Bam Horton. A few more like him with his nerve and pluck will put an end to cattle stealing in the Indian lernlory. tie gets a year subscription to the Standard free. The G.

The Clay Center Dispatch Gives me following: "The Black ville Twins." by thellyers I'omedv company, lias lieen at the opera house two nights this week. Without question this company excels anything in the rollicking fun business we ve ever had. There is nothing in the plot of play that is worth mentioning or remern-bering, hut the odd scenes depicted in the Black ville ncigluHirhood, the darkey serenades, the troubles of the two "coons" who fall in love with The Twins, and can't tell "to't her from which," their elopement, duel, marriage, arrest, all interspersed with plantation melodies, soios, duets a nd quartettes by members (f the company, make the play oao of good humored interest. Monday night our people Unshed outil they cried, and laughed again. Gilbert as "Marmaduke," the dude "coon," ia one of tho best characters ever seen, and his ''running mateScrubby." keqipariy as good," They are funny enough for any house anywhere.

Another strong character Is the oH colored man who leads the revivals. The Twins are good singers, ami in short, the entire company of sixteen persons ia as good as ever seen on the western boards. Our people are almost unanimous in pronouncing the Blackvillc Twins the best funny performance tver seen here. Their is the funniest kind of fun. 83.
