In his earlier days in Colorado W. S. Stratton, the discoverer of silvanite gold in Cripple Creek, who is now a many times millionaire as a result of his discoveries, was only a poor and at times penniless prospector and the late Senator Tabor was a millionaire. At one time when Stratton was hard up he applied to Tabor for assistance, which he received. The matter passed and was a forgotten incident in the great mining camp of Lead-ville by all except Stratton the benificiary.

Tabor died few years ago as poor a man as was Stratton when he helped him. He left a mine that had been worked out, it was claimed, as the sole legacy for his wife and family, who were left so destitute that at times the widow took in washing for a living. At Tabor's death he contended that there was millions of precious metal left in the lower stratas in his mine, the "Matchless," if some one would take hold and open it up. Foryears the mine 'has lain idle since Tabor's death. Some time ago by an order of the court the mine was sold atsheriff's sale to satisfy some of Tabor's old debts, thus leaving the widow without a ray of hope of ever regaining any portion of their once fortune.

The expiration for a redemption of the property from the sheriff's sale would expire the coming fourth of July. M. Stratton heard of the circumstance, drew his check for fifteen thousand dollars, redeemed the once valuable "Matchless" mine, and notified Mrs. Tabor what he had done, and that on the day of expiration of redemption he would make her a deed to it and place to her credit sufficient money to open up the mine This incident shows how a kind act or deed can and often is appreciated. Louis world's fair until September. Those interested are well aware of the fact that only a man interested in mining here or who has lived here a great number of years, could properly look after the district's interests. With this knowledge the commercial club recommended Col. W. B.

Stone for a place on the board. Mr. Wheatley took the matter up with the governor, and told him that if the recommendation of Col. Stone for the place would not meet with his approval the mine operators would make another choice. In his letter Gov.

Stanley did not state whether the selection of Col. Stone did or did not meet with his approval, but those who are in close touch with the movement are of the opinion that Col. Stone will be one of the five commissioners. Galena News. Qff The banking industry is booming in Kansas and Bank Commissioner Albaugh isbusily engaged instituting new banks in all parts of the state.

The-big wheat crop, which the farmers are now harvesting-, will bring millions of dollars into the state during the next few weeLa and more banks are necessary in order to furnish a depository for this large amount of money. The farmers have their debts paid end unless they invest the money which they receive for their wheat, will be obliged to deposit It in the banks. For this reason there la a rnshing business in bank organizing being done. The deputy bzn': commissioners are so busy instituting new banks that they hardly have time to examine the old bsnls now doing business in the state. For a Good 15c Lunch.
