SOUTHWESTERN ADVOCATE Granville Lowther, Editor. B. VV. FOLSOM, PUBIJSHEK. A Proposition Inevitable.

If the trusts keep on increasing in solidarity and power in the next five years as they have within the last five years, they will own the means of production and distribution in this country, and that production and distribution will be in the hands of one hundred men like Rockefeller, Morgan, couraged ao co-operate in the cultivation of gardens, flowers, and when the products are marketed they receive pay in proportion to the labor performed. This keeps them off '-he streets and educates them in labor and prepares them for better citizenship. All these magnificent and successful enterprises bear witness that Walter Vrooman has a master mind, to grasp and organize forces. Granville Lowtuer. The Western Co-Operative Association.

Perhaps no industrial movement of the past few years has attracted so much attention as the Western Co-Op- erative Association. It has large plans, and combines the features of many other movements. Its main features are: the securing of members who justify the establishing of co-operative stores, which give dividends to purchasing members this is not new, for these stores have been in existence for years and have proved successful; the establishing of industrial schools, the primary purpose of which is to train and educate the children of laborers and others in economics, sociology, and ethics in har-mony with the ideas of co-operation, in order to have educated giants who itered at the Postoffice at Winfield, Kansas, as second class mail matter. Vjnfield, May 22, 1902 Subscription 50 cts per year. A fearless edvocate of Socidlism orricidl Oran Socialist Party of (owley Co.

One person has told another it)out the Advocate. That is why its subscription list is growing. Circulation this week t500, "We are not so lonesome as we used to be." "Tall oaks from little acorns grow." Watch it grow. Never in the history ef the world were there so many movements in a- or of Socialism as now. No man can reconcile the system of competition and its consequences with the teachings of Christ.

"Watch it grow!" "Watch what grow?" Socialism; it is outgrowing any other movement on earth. God is expressing Himself in the reneral social movements of to-day. Liiversal justice and love are the keynotes of society. Henry Ward Beecher said, "Find at which way God is going and go lat way." Everything indicates that Cod is going in the direction of oocialism. It is impossible to successfully re-s'st natural law.

It is a stone upon hich, if we fall, we shall be broken; "but on-whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder." "Small dealer, you are doomed!" What ails us? The trusts on the one i and and the co-operators on the oth-. No small merchant can success-l battle against such odds. The greatest infidels and skeptics of t-'iis age are the men who believe the achings of Christ and the golden impracticable. How can they re's the Lord's prayer or believe in leir sermonic effusions. We desire to call especial attention 4 the Socialists of Cowley county to ie call for a meeting at Winfield on iturday, May 31, Let there be a full attendance, and come full of zeal for I work, and be prepared to plan a.

id do something for the cause. Call For Meeting. There will be a meeting of the So-r ilists of Cowley county held Win-f- Id, Saturday, May 31st, in the city ilding at 2 m. The -purpose of 3 meeting is to organize for cam- ign work, and all Socialists are urgently requested to attend, Luella R. Keaybill, Chairman Frank lowther, Secretary.

Harriman, Hill, and ninety-six others. I When that comes to pass seventy-five thousand people will be working for one hundred. That one hundred will determine the price of farm products, coal, oil, manufactured articles, rents, labor, etc. In other words, they will determine the price of what you sell and the price of what you buy, and you will be their servants. Co-Operative- Sharp Points The millions or millionairs, which? Co-operation makes it pay to be honest.

"If a man will not labor, neither let him eat." Equal justice to all and special privileges to none. Co-operation helps the people to help themselves. Co-operation is the friend of all the enemy of none. Persons of all religions and of no religion can co-operate, Co-operation is coming; get out of the way of the band wagon. Co-operation converts the love of money into the love of man.

Competition is war and "war is hell;" how much do you want? Co-operation promotes love and love is heaven; how much do you want? Co-operation is not equal division, but division according to merit. Co-operation promotes thrift, sobriety, morality, kindness, courtesy, love. "The meek" or the trusts "shall inherit the earth." Which shall it be? Republicans, Democrats, Populists, Prohibitionists and Socialists co-operate. Competitors, you are crushing yourselves; co-operation is your only refuge. Under co-operation you are an equal.

Under competition you are a servant. Which do you prefer, the beneficence of co-operation, or the warfare of competition? Co-operation converts the millionaire from selfishness and saves the poor from its consequences. Co-operation saves the waste of war between competitors and gives the profits to the co-operators. Only 50 cents will gel you the Advocate for a whole year. Now is the lime to subscribe.

This is not tempoiaiily repairing and patching your machine it is REBUILDING it by an expert and practicle machine man. I have parts and attachments for all makes of sewing machines and guarantee absolute satis-saction. I live here and am responsible for all wurk done.

Filcher's hospital "I make old Sewing Machines young again." The Season is on at Eureka Springs. Eureka Springs enjoys the patronage of two distinct and seperate communities. People in the Northern States patronize it in cold weather on account of the mildness of its winter climate. People from the South find in its cool breezes and bracing mountain air, a pleasant retreat during the heated term. To both classes Eureka offers an ideal place for rest and heathful out-of-door sport.

We will not attempt, in this limited space, to deal with the healing properties of the springs, or to describe, even in brief, the almost miraculous cures they have effected. A profusely illustrated booklet, "The Top of the Ozarks," has been issued on this subject, containing ample statistics and complete description of the springs and surrounding country The present season at Eureka Springs promises to be the most successful in its history. The Cresent Hotel, which has undergone extensive improvements and renovation, will be open under the direction of the St. Louis San Francisco Railroad company. Golf links will be added to the other attractions of the place; horseback riding, driving, fishing, boating, tennis, mountain climbing; in fact, almost every kind of exercise or amusement will be found in "The Top of the Ozarks." C.

J. Ttjkpin, Agent. Reduced Rates For Current Events. The Frisco System has instituted for the ready reference of the tourist or pleasure seeker, a monthly pamphlet, giving full and complete information relative to coming events, in all parts of the country, for which reduced rates will be made. This is decid-ely a handy thing for one contemplating a summer outing, and is rendered still more comprehensive and attractive by the employment of several good half-tone pictures illustrating points of interest at each particular place to which reduced rates apply.

This pamphlet is entitled "events," and may be had upon application to C. J. Turpin, Local Agent, or to B. F. Dunn, G.

P. Wichita, Kansps. will meet successfully the porducts of capitalistic schools such as are being endowed by the rich in order to control the nation in the interest of capitalism; the establishment of a "Model Town" near Kansas City, which is intended to be unlike other towns where children are not wanted and are cursed if they are so unfortunate as to be born unwelcomed into unfavorable environments it is to be a "Children's Paradise" where large families are encouraged and trained in the most approved manner according to psychic laws the institution to be self-supporting and to receive children from all parts of the country. The Western Co-Operative Association obtains money by giving interest-bearing bonds for stock, which is one of the successful features of the stock company or trust. Now all of these features have been tried separately.

Some have failed, others succeeded. But never before in. this country have all of them been combined into one system, with large capital behind them and experienced specialists employed to superintend the departments. John Doggett has charge of the commercial department; J. McA.

Miller, the educational; Dave L. Guyette superintends the miscellaneous departments Granville Lowther, the lectures and tent meetings. Everything is being reduced to a system and people are taking hundreds of memberships and putting in tens of thousands of dollars of stock. The asseciation has already seven stores in Kansas City, and are reaching out to other towns. A movement is on foot to organize the millers of Kansas, so that they may work in harmony with the central idea.

Manufactories are also being offered as stock, which will enable them to manufacture goods to supply themselves. The wholesale grocers of Kansas City have refused to sell them goods on credit. This was intended to check the movement, but instead it has done us good, for we have money to pay cash, and can also buy in Chicago, St. Louis and other cities where we have credit. The children are being educated unconsciously in co-operation by what is called the Pingree plan, in which the children of the public schools are en.
