210 Main Street. The mystery concerning the death of Myrtle Joseph at Durango is still unsolved. The rumors afloat grow in luridness. The latest is that murder was done with robbery as the motive. The family claim to have no further information than that afforded in the one telegram received which unsatisfactorily gave poison as the cause of death without naming the manner in which the end was accomplished.

The remains are expected to reach here tomorrow. BECKER'S DRUG STORE, 1 304 Main Street. aiiiiiutuiiiiiiiuiuitiitiiuiutituuiiutuuiiuuiutuimuuiR TELEPHONE 222 72. The principal cause of the Good Roads meeting today was a chief reason why there was such a limited attendance of far away road district overseers; the roads were heavy from last night's rain. Yet there was nevertheless a good number of the invited officials to listen to the opening address of the day, and to partake of the banquet prepared by the Commercial Club.

The visitors were expected to rendezvous at the club rooms, and at 11 o'clock to repair to the Opera House. At the hour named there was a good sized audience gathered. The meeting was called to order by Mr. A. P.

Elder, of the Club Good Roads Committee, who briefly stated the objects, which he said were simply to discuss the question of better roadways. He introduced Mr. B. J. Sheridan, of Paola.

Mr. Sheridan had no theories to advance in regard to road building. He would simply relate the experience his county of Miami had passed through. The Republican. Telephone No.

The house, which is owned by H. Soden, had been vacated yesterday. A sharp electrical explosion about 12:30 probably explains the cause of the fire.

The alarm was first given by the engineer of a Santa Fe freight who woke the town with shrill blasts of his whistle as he rolled into the yards. A telephone message notified the engine house, and the new alarm box was put to its first practical service. The flames were feeding luxuriously on the interior when the firemen arrived but the pouring rain had fortunately' kept down outbursts. It was a short job for the boys to extinguish the fire, but the structure was well gutted, intailing a loss of about $600. Ex-fireman John Marsh made another of his fine old-time records as a hustler at fires; he was one of the first "north siders" to respond, and made a bolt for the hose-house, having in mind the recent "strike" that had reduced the force of the north side company to the driver and one member (who is out of town).

John swung into the top seat, assumed command, and he and Driver Culick brought the "machine" over on double quick, and did effectual service. It was to effect that it cost more to transport products from the farm to the shipping point than from the shipping point to the place of selling.

He began an investigation along that line, and soon discovered that there was a great deal in the proposition. He recounted the various public meetings Miami had held on the roads question, that culminated in a monster gathering of 6,000 farmers at Paola in 1898. The farmers had become interested. The first thing, he declared, is to secure this. The farmer is the man who is to be benefitted.

To incite his interest it is next necessary to secure the co-operation of the road overseers. The various meetings in Paola had accomplished, or evidenced that that had been done. And within three years 100 miles of road had been graded and properly provided with culverts. EYES mi sir: ylks CARL BRANDEL C2: JOY BELLS PEALED ft Quiet Wedding Celebrated At Mr. VanSant's Home.
