Schleininger's house, which was Hearing completion, was blowa down; several of the buisness houses were unroofed, and Dr. Myers' office almost decided to take a tumble. Tho school house being eonsider-ed unsafe, school was dismissed for the day. Mrs. A.

Col. Leland spent Thursday in Morrill. The S. of V'b gave a taffy pulling, Saturday night. The string band discoursed sweet music for tha edification of the merry throng who did not have something sweeter on hands.

Elder Stall went to Lincola, Kansas, last week, where he will hold a protracted meeting. Mrs. Dr. Lindsay, of Horton, visited relatives in the. vicinity of Troy, last week.

Will Hayton came down from Morrill, last Sunday. We could not think what made Edwin Leland look so smiling, tho other day; but we found oat that it was because Iae came in April, this year. The Baptists have received their aew bell, and will soon have it hung in the belfry. Sheriff Steele spent Thursday ia Leona. At the highly moral and instractive street fight, last Thursday afternoon, it was observed, in the motley crowd, that Rob.

Castle was an interested spectator. It is generally believed that he was taking notes preparatory to a course of training, after which he will challange the famous John L. Attorneys Alcid Bowers and J. J. Baker went to Severance oa business, one day last week.

Deputy County Clerk, HissSchletzbauni, is taking a week's vacation, and will spend the time at Morrill, for which place she left, Tuesday. She was accompanied by her younger sister. The average feminine hear-? beats in sympathy with the bill for unlimited silver coinage. Why? Because Easter bonnets will soon be ripe. Shirley sauce has been scarce at the Higby House, for tho past three weeks.

But for several days the supply has been equal to the demand, and is of a sweeter flavor. Miss Lizzie Noyes spent last week in Highland, the guest of Miss Jessie Mcintosh. Dr. Stranahan, who settled in Troy last week, inquired Friday how Ion that wind was likely to la3t? One of our physicians, who shall be nameless, replied, "Oh, three days, at least." The new Dr. thinks seriously of locating elsewhere.

Miss Leona Sullivan spent last Monday in Troy, returning to Wathena Tuesday. Miss Carrie Dixon came up from St. Joseph, last week, and spent several days In Troy. A number of our citizens attended the obsequies of Milton E. Bryant, at Wathena, Tuesday of last week.

Several of the sidewalks around the public square have been replaced by new ones, which makes quite an improvement in that part of town. Now, if only the City Council would order all the walks in town to be repaired, it would greatly enhance the charm3 of our thriving city. We notice by the Educational Column in the Chief, that original conundrums are all the fashion. So here What is the favorite flower of the schoolma'am of Troy? Why, Sweet William, of course. Cleed.

Read it over and over again, spell it out and sing it, until it is indelibly fixed in your mind, that Dr. Sage's Catarrh Remedy is an infallible cure for chronic catarrh of the head, with all its distressing complications. Impaired taste and smell, offensive breath, ringing noises in the head, defective hearing, nose and throat ailments, are not only relieved, bat positively and permanently cured! This is no fancy of the imagination, but a hard, solid fact, proven over and over again, and vouched for, under a forfeiture of $300, by its manufacturers, the World's Dispensary Medical Association, Buffalo, N.

Hatch A Thrmanson, llfeb3m. Wathena, Kan. MARRIED. At the Christian parsonage, Toesday evening, March 29th, 1892, Mr. David Graves and Miss Arria Etheeton, both of this vicinity, N.

A. Stall officiating. On March 30th, 1S92, in Doniphan County, Kansas, by Rev. D. G.

Saunders, Mr. Edward Oswald and Miaa Minnis Ruse, all of Doniphan County, rnnir and one who loves fair play, I beg that you will give my views on what seems to be of great concern to a few political ax-grinders ia the Republican party of Kansas. These people are self-appointed apostles, sitting in judgment on the genuineness of ex-Senator Ingalls' Republicanism. Their conduct is "amoosin," to say the least. These missionaries are making their readers believe something that hitherto has not generally been known, and that is, that a few newspaper editors have a mortgage on or own and carry the Republican party in their vest pocket.

So far as I am concerned, and I can produce a thousand or more Republican voters, who will swear irom the depths of their hearts, before High Heaven, that we will never, never, no never, vote for a man or men for any trust, either in State or nation, who have been vilifying and slandering the good name of one of the greatest men of this nation, John J. Ingalls. If those newspapers wno are passing on Senator Ingalls' Republicanism had put in half as much time in build ing up the Republican party in the years of 1889 and 1890 as they have in the last year in trying to prove that Senator Ingalls is not a Republican, the Alliance would have been routed, bag and baggage and we common people know it, and justly blame them for Senator Ingalls' defeat. We are tired of their howling the old chestnut about the Republican party going down with Ingalls, for every man with a grain of sense knows that if the Alliance had been met by the Republican party in time, that senseless organization would have been wiped from the State in disgrace in six weeks. Gentlemen, you fellows who have been reading ex-Senator Ingalls out of the er.

o. the voters ask you to pro duce us the evidence at your command that will convict John J. Ingalls of back sliding. We fellows who cut bait but never fish, are on the ground, and are just as capable of placing a proper construction upon Senator Ingalls' speeches and interviews as those who lish and arc fishing. I send greeting to every old soldier in Kansas, and say, let us stand shoulder to shoulder, as we once did, and somebody will hear something drop.

Respectfully, J. W. Rcdbow. Oskaloosa, Kansas. Do You Know It I A common Cough is the most dangerous thing in the world to neglect; a slight hacking Cough is also very dangerous, as it always leads to Bronchitis and Consumption.

Don't neglect them. In selecting a remedy for Coughs, Colds and Bronchitis, be sure and get one that is not full of Opium, and one that will not produee Constipation. Ballard's Horehound Syrup does not constipate, remember, this. It is perfectly harmless for children, and it's the most soothing and healing Throat and Lung medicine in the world. It cures Consumption, Cough, Colds, Sore Throat, Asthma, Whooping Cough, Croup, Bronchitis, Hoarseness, Sore Lungs, tickling in the throat, and greatly strengthens the Lungs after Pneumonia.

Sold by D. C. Sinclair, Troy; Campbell A McCormick, Severance. Died. Mrs.

Dora B. wife of Monree II. Racus, near Highland Station, Sunday morning at 7 o'elock, March 27th, in the 18th year of her age. Deceased was born in Pulaski County, Ind. coming to Kansas with her parents, about five years ago, and was married May 5th, 1891.

She leaves an infant, which, without a mother's care, will find many hard struggles in this cold world. Her funeral took place from the Highland Station Baptist church, conducted by Rev. F. W. Davis, of Troy, attended by a large concourse of bereaved relatives and sympathizing friends.

Her death is only another reminder that the young as well as the old are cut down. But there is one comfort left for the sorrowing ones: she made Christ her choice, and in her last hours of Buffering she submitted herself wholly to Him whom she had been following for two years, trusting implicitly, and as a little child, in all his promises. The words of the poet fitly set forth what of the joys of this earth she may have promised herself, and that she now possesses: "Thy voice is in my ear, beloved! Thy look is in my heart; Thy bosom is my resting place. And yet I must depart. Earth on my soul ia strong too strong Too precious is its chain.

All woven of thy love, dear one, Yet vain though mighty vain I Thou see'st mine eye grow dim, beloved Thou see'st niy life-blood flow Bow to the chastener silently, And calmly let me go A little while between our hearts The shadowy gulf must lie. Yet have we for their communing Still. stiU Eternity! Then be thou strong Oh knew we not Our path must lead to this A shadow and a trembling still Were mingled with our bliss We plighted our young hearts when storms Were dark upon the sky. In rail, deep knowledge of their task. To suffer and to die." P.

THE Storm. One of the fiercest storms that aver visited Kansas, commenced last Thursday nigkt, and continued through the greater part of Friday. It extended over five or six adjoining States. In Southern Kansas, tha worst of it was in the night bat from Topeka northward, it was Friday forenoon. The daily papers have given full accounts of its ravages in the aountry at large.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of fifty persons were killed throughout Kansas. Troy seems to be in a favorable loeatiea as to storms. While the blow here was heavy, the damage was trifling, compared with other towns. A few sidewalks were blowa up, and outhouse keeled over. Dr.

Myers office was blown from its underpinning, and skewed around tha tin roof was blown off Frank Zimmerman's warehouse, and the roof of Byers' hardware store was somewhat damaged. Other tin raofs were saved by timely action. One singular feature is, that but few trees were damaged. This storm was not a cyclone, but a straight blow fro at the soatk-west a gale of the proportions of a tornado. In most places, little or no raia accompanied it.

A Lady In Kentucky. I had a bad cough for four months. I tried everything I could hear of without relief, and I gave up to die, but God sent Dr. Wkita's Pulmonaria in my way to cure me. It la the best medicine in the world, aad I keep it on hand all the time.

Mrs. Sam Gilson, Bowting Oreen, Ky. This great medicine is sold by your druggists, D. C. Sinclair at Troy, and Campbell A McCormick at Severance.

oT Mrs. Hope, who has Wen with her invalid sister for the past few months, at Canon City, Colorado, returned Monday evening. jyO" Henry Goll, a German, one of the oldest settlers in Union Township, and a soldier in the war of the Rebellion, fell dead, a ear his house, Monday morning. The cause of his death was the rupture of a blood vessel in the braia. He-had beea complaining of severe pains in his head, for some days, and there was inflammation ia that part.

He had been doing some hard work, that moraing. His son was on trial in Court, for selling liquor, when the dispatch was received announcing his father's death. The Handsomest Lady In Troy Remarked to a friend the other day that sh knew Kemp's Balsam for the Throat and Lungs was a superior remedy, as it stopped her cough instantly when other cough remedies had no effect whatever. So to prove this and convince you of its merits, any druggist will give you a sample bottle free. Large size 50c and 1.

F. Hogue. Councilmen J. H. Bingmaa, Wm.

Rau, John Carry, Z. L. Gilmore, Joseph Mullen. Kood Sense! Disease is largely the result of impure blood. To purify the blood, is to sure the disease! As a blood-purifier and vitalizer, Dr.

Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery stands head and shoulder above any other known specific! Its power in this direction is nothing short of wonderful. Guaranteed to benefit or cure in every case, or moasy refunded. Wm. Shepherd is re-elected Mayor of St. Joseph, by 240 majority, together with the whole Republican ticket.

Hurrah for Shop Formerly of Troy. Bright people are the quickest to recognize a good thing and buy it. We sell lota of bright people the little Early Risen. If you are not bright these pills will make you so. D.

C. Sinclair. Soap People have no idea how crude and cruel soap can be. It takes off dirt. So far, so good but what else does it do? It cuts the skin and frets the under-skin makes redness and roughness and leads to worse.

Not soap, but the alkali in it. Pears' Soap has no free, alkali in it. It neither reddens nor roughens the skin. It responds to water instantly; washes and rinses off in a twinkling; is as gentle as strong; and the after-effect is every way good. All sorts of stores sell it, especially druggists; all sorts of people use it.

Leona Items. Many of our citizens have caught the Oklohoma fever, and will not be centent until they have gotten one of Uncle Sam's farms. Mr. C. B.

Walker completed his seven mohths' term of school in the upper room, Friday. Miss Lucy Brown who has charge of the primary department, wiU continue teaching another month. She has 50 enrolled. Mr. Samuel Bush and family will move back to Robinson, in a few days.

We regret to have them leave us, as they are a worthy family. The cheerful workers have cheerfully agreed to purchase sufficient lumber to enclose the church grounds with a fence. Miss Harley has shewn us some specimens of what she calls "booklets," the work of pupils of her de-partmeat in the Troy school. They consist of drawings on paper and cardboard, the sheets being held together in book form with ribbons. Tha drawings consist of maps, outlines, buildings, flowers, together with short sketches of tha early history of what is now Kansas, and poetical sentiments taken from the productions of Kansas writers. There is one map of of Doniphan County, and several outline maps of Kansas Territory, before the date of white settlements. These pupils all took up drawing sineethe commencement of the preseat term of school.

All the work is very pretty and creditable, and some of it is excellent. The pupils contributing booklets are Mernie Castle, Ollie Berry, Edna Parker, Stella Wykert.Lulu Sinclair, Blanche Baxton, and Harry Sneath. The Population of Troy Is about 600, and we would say at least one-half are troubled with soma affection on the Throat and Lungs, as. these complaints are, according to statistics, more numerous than others. We would advise all our readers not to neglect the opportunity to call on their druggist and get a bottle of Kemp's Balsam for the Throat and Lungs.

Trial size free. Large Bottles 60c and 1. Sold by all druggists. We have just read tho announcement of the death of an old friend whom we never met. From the Chautauqua Farmer, of Dunkirk, f.

we leara that Samuel Toll 03 died in that city, March 23d, in the 74th year of his age, from the efi'ects of grippe. He was a prominent dealer in lumber, coal, and oil, and had held many offices of trust aad honor in the city. Grandmother Wheeler, of Troy, who ia now about 90 years of age, is a sister of the deceased. Mr. Tollea had been a subscriber of the Chief for about seventeen yeara, having become acquainted with the paper through his nephew, the late Henry Wheeler.

Idol, in Brown County, south-west of White Cloud, was burned, with all its contents, including ten head of horses, two or three carriages and buggies, a lot of farm machinery, 3,000 bushels of corn, and a largo quantity of hay. The origin of the fire is unknown. The loss is about with very little insurance. The promptness and certainty of its cures have made Chamberlain's Cough Remedy famous. It is intended especially for coughs, colds, croup and whooping coughs, and is the most effectual remedy known for these diseases.

We are informed that a slight discussion took place, last week, between Alcid Bowers and the Defendant, growiag out of the continued and unjustified abuse of Bowers by the Defendant, and that is the wrestle that ensued, the Defendant was the under dog. If dull, spiritless and stupid; if your blood is thick and sluggish; if your appetite is capricious and uncertain, you need a Sarsaparilla. For best results take De Witt's. D.

We are told that at Hiawatha and Horton it rained chunks of mud. TO "Late to bed and early to rise will shorten the road to your home in the skies." But early to bod and a "Little Early Riser," tho pill that makes life longer and better and wiser. D. C. Sinclair.

lj Owing to the crowded state of our columns, we have placed two original contributions oa our fourth page from A. B. Allerton and Mrs. Ellen Patton. Jt The County Board will meet next Monday, the 11th, in regular session.

Bills will bo allowed, and all kinds of Couaty business transacted. It is a truth in medicine that the smallest dose that performs the cure is the best. De Witt's Little Early Risers are the smallest pills, will perform the cure, and are the best. D. C.

and $1.00. Literary Note. The April number of "Romance" contains seventeen complete stories of the highest character and liveliest interest. A remarkable proportion of famous writers figure among their authors. It is a theory of this periodcal that the genius of every great writer should be made to contribute to the good of the race, and there is a striking exemplification of the theory in this issue.

The world would be the gainer if much that Emile Zola has written were expunged from literature, but it would be a pity to lose "Povarina," the exquisite fairy-tale from his pen which is here given. Here, too, are specimens of the best short-story work of Charles Dickens, Guy de Maupassant, Mauric Lefevre, Paul Areno, Erckmann-Chatrian, Emilia Pardo Bazan, Grant Allen, and others. A notable feature is a sketch entitled "Catching a Coolie," which describes a thrilling adventure ia Oriental waters, from the pen of Lieut. J. H.

Scott, U. S. R. M. This periodical is issued by Romance Publishing Company, Clinton Hall, Astor Place, New York.

The price is 23 cents per copy; $2.50 per year. rs- We have some four or five contributions on hand, which shall receive attention as we have room. They are all of a character that will keep for a few weeks. A person sends us 20 cents ia postage stamps, in a registered letter. The postage and register fee on the letter was 12 cents.
