It look well. We wish it prosperity. Don't Kill Him Sam Wood, Speaker of the late House of IteprenenUttives, sends a pointed latter to tbe Timet published in another col nmn in which he enquires whether he shall kill Old Baker or (he Commonwealth. This is a grave question, and one that we should not like to pass upon too hastily. To judee Baker by his own rule, as applied to Swayze, lie deserves killing, and Bam would he justified, according to tbe same rule, in doing it; but we guess, upon the whole, it would be better for him not to do it.

A railroad engineer once remarked that he always hated to run over a man, becaused it mussed up tbe wheels so; and for like reasons 8am should hesitate about locating out justice to Baker; it would necessarily make considerable of a muss, and it wouldn't be right to subject his relatives the expense of a funeral while times ars so hard. Besides. 8am has no sure thiflg that tbe Governor would pardon Lira; Wilson is better off In this respect. and it generally supposed that he Is all right, but Samuel must remember last circumstances alter cases, and more than likely this would be one of the times. True, there may be no reason apparent to mortal ken wbr Old Baker should lire.

Says the Atchison Patriolt "A gentle man who has just returned from a three week's trip through Shawnee, Osage, Lyon, Chase, Marion, Harvey 'and Sedg wick counties, informes us that during the entire i rip he saw no grasshoppers. Plenty of them have been hatched out in Marion, Harvey and Sedgwick, but they have all mysteriously, disappeared, and that without doing any damage to growing crops.

The wheat crop looks splendid all through the sections, and the prospect for an abundant harvest is encouraging. Many of the farmers arc through planting corn, and the remainder ill be bv the 10th of this month. The outlook is truly encouraging." At the election on Tuesday to vote ad- ditional aid to the Memphis Ellsworth R. R. in Sheridan Township, at tlfis (Cherokee) precinct 199 votes were cast for the bonds and 23 against.

At Beulah, 8 were cast for the bonds and 7 against. making a maiority of 177 for the bonds In Osage township we understand 150 votes were cast for the bonds and 25 against. In Cherokee township, Cherokee county the bond was defeated by one vote. This is to be regretted, but the friends of the road are not disheartened, but will re new the fight with vigor in that township and we have not the least doubt but what they will succeed in tho next contest, which will take place as soon as another election can be ordered. Great Universal Fair and Won der World Exposition. MUSKCM, SIX AOEBIS AXD CIRCUS. This monster organization exhibited here yesterday afternoon and evening, and their im menne navillion was OJIed to overflowing with a multitude of the denizens of onr city, young ana oia. ft nave oeea i a uii asuii vi going iu every circus of any importance since we were biz enough to lick a stick of candy or chew a gum drop, and we can safely assert the Wonder World Exhibition is about tbe most complete and finely appointed organization of the kind we ever saw. It is useless to go into particulars, yet we cannot refrain from mentioning a few of the more prominent features of this really excellent show.

The Bedouin Arabs in their peculiarly wild, weird and fantastic performances, were very interesting, while the Japanese, the wonderfiil equilibrists, fully merited the thunders of applause whrh rreated their thrilling feats. The astonishing Barrel feat of "Big All Right" especially provoked exclamations of wonder from the admiring malfitnde. Besides these, there were tbe grand chariot races, carrying the imagination back to the days when Rome's fairest daughters contested in the arena of the great amphitheatre: the hurdle races, in which was displayed the most perfect horsemanship; and the excitinn race for a bride, by the Indians, which caused the wildest enthusiasm. The thrilling "Leap fur life" on the flying trapeze by Will Salvlna was one of the most daring feats we ever saw in the ring, and the bareback riding, somersault leaping and gymnastic performances were first clasa in every respect. The funny antics and grotesque wit of the clowns served to keep everybody in a roar of laughter whenever they appeared in the ring.

Then for tbe student of natural philosophy, a rare trest was afforded by the immense collection of rare and curious wild beasts in the managerie which ia-elnde many specimens never exhibited here before. The cages containing the Asiatic lions, and the tank Fa which disported the huge hippopotamus, were especial objects of interest. The great balloon race outside the canvas were also a special feature, and constituted one of the most novel attractions ever witnessed in this section of conntry. On the whole, it was a performance which was enjoyed by everybody, and its excellence was attested by tbe universal satisfaction expressed by all who attended. St.

But there has been the uprising of a great people and circumstances favor honest men in the great work or political and social regeneration. I. J. ROCriUSSEH- To The Voter of Rtirrton Township. Bubbton May 14th 1877.

On Sstorday tbe 19th we have a very Important question to decide. The question is. Shall we or shall we not have a North South railroad Let ns see what will be our sitnation if we de cide not to take It. By examining the agricul. tural report of 1877 we find that all of the conn ties both north and soata are as good agricultur al counties as there are In the State, as far as they have been tested; which makes tbe propos ed lln valuable for a Railroad to ran through There will aoon be reads both north and south of ns and that too in the near future.

If we say on next Saturday that we don't want this road we are forever left out in the cold.nnd Burrton having a good natural sitnation to make a good town will be cut off on both sides, by competing railroads In other towns. If we next fall say that we want the road it will then be too late. There Is another question that right here naturally suggests itself, and that is, will it pay to vote the amount of bonds asked for? If yon are a day la. employment Count them np and see that it you could have had employment only half of the days Idly spent in the past year, that you could pay your tax on a quarter section for two or three yean in advance. I take it for granted that If the road Is bnllt, that In less then three months after the bonds are voted improvements will be- i- i .11 are now deairing the same, to say nothing of the labor that it will take to build the Road.

If yon are farming on a small reals and have produce of varioaa kinds, especially such as are perishable, will it not pay you to vote for the bonds For in so doing yon, if the bonds carry, make a good trading point at Burrton. And instead as It now is, when yon have a little marketing you don't find any one to bay. The population will be increased so that you will be looked for, in stead of your looking for some one to bay. to ay nothing of the advantages of competition in hipping wheat, coal and lumber. Emporia and Junction City are only paying abont one half the rates inai we are.

just occause iney nave oompe- iiivu 4i uu ssi vj isuiuiiig via en Hirwo effttj a ill nav. Less than a ear load of wheat ahlnned will mora than nav vour tax. to sav no thin o. other advantages above mentioned. Or if yon want to sell your farm, it will pay you to vote for tbe bonds; your land will sell quicker and mt m.

hatter mint. If von don want to sell vnnr I land, it will pay. because the benefits derived from tbe Koaa win more man twice pay your Nnm. that lhp r.nnnt for it because it's a fraud. Well I miu'ht as well iSXlX horse.

There would be Just as much sense in iu road must be built before it receives the bonds same place.
