The sudden and unexpected death of John McClure, on Good Friday last, came as a shock to relatives and friends. It was not generally known that he was ill. He had only been sick ten day with pneumonia and a cold that was not deemed very serious until the summons came at one o'clock, and half an hour later he quietly breathed his last.

His wife and daughter, Mqllie, were at his bedside when paralysis of the throut set in. Physicians and relatives were hastily called and all was done to stay the hand of death. But it was of no avail. The end had come. "He's gone; over the river, the-river of death, into the silent land." John McClure was born in county Armaugh, Ireland, July 5, 1842fc and died at Valley Falls, Kansas, on Good Friday, April 2, 1915, aged 72 years, 8 months and 27 days.

In 1860 John McClure, when but 18 years of age, came to America, locating at York, Penn. where an older brother had preceded him-. In February 1902 he moved with his two daughters to Valley Falls, where he had bought residence property. September 14, 1904 he was married to Miss Hattie A. Gardiner who with their only son, John Frederick, him. Though retired from active work for 15 years he was a director in theCitU zen's State Bank and owned a business block on Broadway, always having something to do. Though raised a' United Presbyterian he was a member of the Conr gregational church of Valley Falls where he was faithful to his vowaand work of the church.

For many years he was a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen. The funeral was held from the Congregational church on Easter day in the afternoon, Rev, A. L. Wood, his pastor, and Dr. J.

A. Renwich of Topeka, a beloved friend, conducting the services in the presence of a large circle of relatives, and many old friends pnd neighbors. The casket and surroundings were covered with a generous offering of flowers from many friends. The burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in the family lot with loved ones, with the appropriate burial service of the Workman order. The bereaved wife and children have the sympathy of all friends.

He came to Kansas with his little family in 1869 locating on a farm four miles southwest of Valley Falls where he was a successful farmer and husbandman for more than thirty years. There in that famous Blue Mound neighborhood he labored, owned and tilled a fine farm and won the respect of all his neighbors. On January 24, 1899, his dear wife died.

After a year abroad at his old home in Ireland and' a visit at York he returned to his Kansas farm. On February 24, 1901, he was married to Miss Mary Hood of Nortonville, U. B. CHURCH, OZAWKIE Services on Sunday as follows: Bible School, 10 a. m.
