we will give all customers tlie Advantage of Low Prices mm i A SiNGCf.AR day last week, a young man aged about 19 year came to the vicinity of Troy, in the search of his mother. This wa bis story When about four years of age, be was stolen from bis mother by Al. Wirkham, who uised to live in this vicinity, aud who was lynched some where in Western Kansas, lan summer, for horse stealing. He did not know why YVL-kharn stole him, but he took him to Clay County, and he afterwards drifted to the County poor-bouse. The County bound him out to an old bachelor farmer until he was 15 years of age.

Cpon reaching that age, be proposed to leave, but tbe old man did not want to part with him, aad proposed that if he remained until he was 18, be would -deed him 40 acres of land out of tbe 300 acre that he owned, and give him a team to farm it. The boy remained, and at the stipulated time was given tbe land. Afterwards the old man told him that if be would bunt np hi mother and brother and bring them out, he would give them the whole 300 acres, to be their absolutely upon bis death. This was tbe young man's mission to this vicinity. His mother had been married three time, the last time to a man named Perry, and wa again a widow.

Wa did not learn what tbe young man's name was, nor what success be bad bunting for bis family. Experience vs. laexperieae. It i a matter of regret that iu introd ucing Hood' Sarssparilla, its proprietors are obliged to overcome a certain distrust by some people who have unfortunately boagbt worthless compounds mixed by persou ig-uoraot of pharmacy. Messrs C.

I. Hood At Co. are reliable pharmacists of long experience, and they make no claims for Hood's Sarssparilla which cannot be substantated by tbe strangest proof. And we say to those who lack confidence, read tbe unsolicited testimonial in favor of Hood's Ssrsaparilla, and then prove its merits by actual personal test. We are confident you will not be disappointed, but will find it a medicine of peculiar curative value, which can be implicitly relied upon.

Anotiikk Still another old settler has been added to the lengtbning list of those who have died, this winter. Daniel Nor man died last Friday night, at his residence a few miles north of Troy, of paralysis, with which be bad been stricken two day before. Hi age wa 75 years. Mr. Xor-uian came to this vicinity in 1856, being among the earliest settlers of Douiplran County.

Free Trase. The reduction of internal revenue and the taking off of revenue stamps from proprietary medicines, uo duiibt lias lurely beucfitted the consumers, as well aa relieving the burden of Louie manufacturers. Especially is this the case with Green's August Flower and Hoscbee'a German Syrup, as the reduction of thirty-six ceats per dozen, has been added to the size of the bottles containing these remedies, thereby giving oue-fifth more medicine iu the 7j cent size. The Au-jnt Flower for Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint, anil the German Syrup for Coughs and Lnng troubles, hate, perhaps, the lar-lieiit sale of any medicine iu the world. Tbe advantage of increased size of the bottle will be greatly appreciated by tbe silk and afflicted, in every town and village in civilized countries.

Topbka, Kebrnarj 5, 1887. The Hour baa spent a couple of ilajs lis-euasing a bill providing that whrn a uiBjor-ity of voters resiiling within half a mile of aifr highway of tlie leDjjtb of fiv. miles, ball petition for it, the Couuty Board shall levy tax on all land adjoining the highway for that diatance, for the purpose of improving the road. It failed to pass. Both Houses Lave now got down squarely to work, and are turning out bills so fast that it ia bard to keep track of them.

A there have now been introduced in both House about seven hundred bills, it will be necessary to work fast, if any considerable portion of tbetu get through. Beginning with next Tuesday, the Senate will hold three session per day and doubtless the House will soon do tbe same. There is too much of a disposition evinced, to pas resolution instructing Congress what to do. This take up a great deal of time that the members of the' Legislature might put in doing something themselves. There are two or three temperance bill yet to come np, that will occupy considerable time.

'I hey propose important changes in the prohibitory law, designed to make it more effective. Since tbe saloons are cleeed, and prohibition prohibits, by confining the sal of lienor to tbe drug stores, tbe thing that now puzzle thew is to regulate tbe drug stores. They do not appear to be oven so fortuuate aa tbe doctor who always endeavored to throw his patient into tits, because be was tremendous en fit, and knew how to control them. Tbe bill reducing tbe fee of County officer ha had one tunnel in tbe Senate. Tbe fee in some of the large and booming Coon-tie are doubtless much too large, and as a general law on tbe sul.jact i necessary, it ia sought to remedy tbe difficulty by making a geaaral reduction, according to population of Counties, which makes it rather rough on tLe smaller Counties.

The first round in tbe Senate looked as if tbe bill would nut get through. A bill ha passed the Senate, making drunkenness a misdemeanor. Any person found intoxicated in any public place, or on any highway, street or allay, i subject to arrest and itn prisounieut fur a given length of time. It eame very near pausing with a provision that a person intoxicated in his own house should be subject to tbe same penalty. The bill changing Township election back to February, lias been reported upon favorably by tbe Senate Committee on Klection.

The school book bills and the numerous amendments to the school laws are yet to be fought over, when the various Couuty Superintendents who are acting as the paid agents of Eastern school book publishers will have an opportunity to git iu their work. Among the numerous bills to regulate railroads, are some rattier novel oucs. For example, a bill compelling ma la that carry passengers ou freight train, to put cn a passenger couch. We presume the author has received some rough bumps riding in caboose. As railroui1 do not like to carry passeugeis on freight tiaiua, but do so only to arcoiuriKidate the public, tbe passage of such a Iiiw, inattail of providing freight trains with palace shut off passenger from thexe trains altogether.

The average member of a Kansas Legislature has a high appreciation of the importance of bis vote, lie iiu jginea that it will decide the destiny of the world. The other day a series of resolutions were iutroduced in tbe Senate, endoiaing Senator Ingalls' speech on the naileries question. Immediately a lot of grave Senators declared they were not prepared to endorse such sweeping remark. Ingalls had suiJ thing they not say were correct, and we should be cautious bow we endorse such wholesale assertions. The result was, that the resolutions were reduced to skim milk.

But this doubtless saved our country from a bloody war. Englaud unjust waiting fer the expression of tbe Kansas Senate to determine whether she would permit thi nation to linger ulong for a few more years, or crush it out at one blow. Tbe Jonee Alyton context, from Finney County, will probably be deeided iu the House, this week. We are told that Myton ottered do evidence, and that threat were made against persons who should attempt to take evidence in bis town. Jones feels confident, but to ai outsider it look a if the thing bad been up" In favor of Myton, and that evidence was not wanted.

All thia comes of the foolish action of tbe tbe Legislature, a few jears ago, in wiping out the line of a number of Counties, leaving two or three Counties of immense terri tory in Soutli-weteru Kansas. A the country settles up, jealousy arises between the iliflerent parts of this large Territory, sometime resulting in war. Tbe only remedy is to restore the old County lines, making a number of Counties of cuuvenient size. The appointment of V. J.

Lea aa Insurance Cotutuinsioner seems to give much dissatisfaction, even among tboie who will vote for his confirmation, and a sharp fight over the matter is expected io the Senate. The nuture of the objections to liim we have not yet fully learned but one is that be voted for Gin against St. John, for which he was reinstated aa Chief Clerk by the lemoeratic Commissioner, Mr. Morris. But that is not hi worst fault, as a good many Republicans iu Kansas voted for Click.

1 he Atchison 6'tobc make a statement which seems to throw a little more light upou the difficulty. It says that Lea never washes bis teeth. This i simply infamous, if true. The Legislature cannot amend the law too soon, providing that persou shall be eligible to the oSice of Commissioner of Insurance who does not wash his teeth at least once a jaur. The average Topekan thinks be has an inalienable rijjht to live of) the State, and to help himself to whatever be chooses tliat belongs to the State.

Anything looking remotely to a reiuotal of the Capital, causes a care and a kick. This was the case when Senator II I. Kelley. last week, offered a resolution to discontinue the tax for the completion of the State IIou.se, until it could finally be decided where tiio Capital would be permanently located. Topeka has not got hotel accoiuiu cdations for the crowd that usually gather here on public occasions, and v.

Tbey did so, and he was standing on the platform of the caboose, putting on bis glove. Thinking be wa off, they again started up the train, with one of those jerks with which all are familiar who have ever ridden ou a freight train, hurling biiu from the platform to the ground with great violence. One of bis toes was broken, and it was reported that his collar bone was broken in two places. We have since learned that it is thought the collar bone is not broken, and be was sitting up, Friday morning. Doubtless our Severance itciuizer will ive full particular.
