Some forty years ago in Londonderry, Ireland, lived two brothers by the name of Campbell.

In 1849 James, who Is the youngest, bid tbe other farewell and left for America to make his fortune, and that he succeeded will be shown later. Since the last good-bye at the old home the brothers have not met, ani only until the last few months have they known that the other was alive. Some years after his brother left, George, the oldest boy, came to America, and after residing at different points finally located on a fine farm near Bronson, this county, twenty miles west of this city, where he resides today, a well known and prosperous farmer. A few months ago, while looking over a newspaper, he became interested in an account of the abduction of James Campbell, a wealthy planter of the Sandwich islands, at San Francisco, and the attempt made by his abductor to force him to sign a check for $50 000 in order to secure his release. Different points and statements in the story together with the picture of the abducted man lead tbe Bourbon county farmer to believe that thevlctlm of the kidnappers was his long lost brother and he immediately wrote him a letter of inquiry.

Three months passed'and no answer came. One day a roughly dressed man, supposed to be a tramp stopped at Mr. Campbell's home and asked to be al lowed to rest there. He was lnvl'ed to dinner and remained an hour or two. He was noticeably inquisitive about Mr.

Campbell's history and finally asked him if he took any city papers. Mr. Campbell replied that he did and at tbe fellow's request handed him a paper on which was printed his name and ad dress as it came to him through the mail. Tbe stranger left and two weeks later Mr. Campbell received a letter from the San Francisco man acknowl edging his relation.

Theclrcumstances lead Mr. Campbell to the belief that the supposed tramp was a detective seat by the millionaire brother to obtain definite knowledge of him and assure himself that tbe claim of relationship wai not made by some designing im poster. Since receiving the letter regul correspondence has been kept up between the two men and a meeting has been arranged to occur at George Campbell's home In this county early In the spring. Pratt. A Bad rear in German Letters. One must, indeed, go back into the S0's to find an equally uneventful year. On the whole, we can only ay that it has been a year of disappointments Sundermann has disappointed us, the entire modern whether in Ber lin or Vienna, has failed to justify the degTee of promise it displayed in past vears. HauDtmann.

it is true, has ad vanced a atep with "Flonan Geyer, but "Florian Geyer" is too deeply root ed in German soil to be hai led as a work of European interest or importance On the other hand, the writers of a con servative trend have, with hardly an exception, not given us of their best. Under these circumstances it is difficult to speak wltn confidence of future developments, but I shall be surprised 11 the tide that has set in so unmistak ably toward romanticism will not before long bring about a more satisfac tory in German letters. For, notwithstanding his vaunted cosmo politanism and his readiness to adapt himself to all literary ideals, the Ger man is still essentially the dreamer and tbe romanticist; he has still a warm place in his heart for the "Blue Flower, faded though it may be. cigar as good Furniture, latest styles, Lamb, Requa Co. PAPER BOTTLES IN USE. Said to Be as Good aa Glase in All Reapects and Far More Durable. Some years ago there was started in this city a company for the manufacture of paper bottles. It was not the success that its promoters intended it to be.

There was great difficulty in getting the right foothold. It was pointed out that paper was being used very extensively in the manufacture of car wheels, rowing shells, wash basins and a half-dozen branches of the decorative art, but nobody would believe that the bottle scheme would possibly succeed, and there the matter was dropped as far as outside capital was concerned. Since that time another company has managed to push forward the idea with some degree of prosperity. Now another company is about to be formed and it will have to.be a success, because there is too much money behind the concern to make it otherwise. This manager was asked what paper bottles were available for, and he answered quite promptly, if not altogether sarcastically: "Everything that glass is used for." Then he added "We are now negotiating for the purchase of some of the finest machinery to be found in a newly established shop.

We have this to claim for our bottle. It cannot be broken unless with unnecessary force. That is just where the saving is to come in. No more leakage or breakage, and consequently less loss to not only the consumer but the merchant as well. We intend to make a big bid for the foreign trade.

The wine merchants of Europe lose an immense sum annually through breakage in a ship's hold or otherwise. No matter where the glass bottles break, they are broken, and the loss is just as great all around. We can make a paper bottle for about one- half the cost of glass bottles, and, in addition, they will be found perfectly watertight, as well as airtight. We have made innumerable experiments, and in all of them we found that, while it was. comparatvely easy to make papier-mache airtight around wine, It was not so easy to do so in the case of beer.

Why this is so the brewers may explain. But we have overcome that difficulty, too. Another point that should be remembered in the manu facture of paper bottles is that there is little danger of freezing. Still an other is that in packing them away absolutely no straw, waste or such is required, and the absence of these means a large saving in space. In the next few years you will find paper bottles all over the world." X.
