the sculling match between Laycock, of Australia, and Hosmer, of Boston, for over the Thames, champion course, the Bostonian was defeated. Laycock rowed easy and won by three lengths. The weather was splendid. WALKING CONTEST. The pedestrian contest this morning stood: Rowell, 186; Littlewood, 152 Dobler, 177; Howard, 135 Pegram, 88.

Though Rowell slightly increased his lead from Dobler during the night, they are both going strongly, as are also Howard and Littlewood. Rowell rested two hours and thirty minutes, Littlewood three hours and fifty-one minutes, and Howard two hours and hirty-two minutes. They all suffered greatly in the early morning from intense cold. Pegram is laid up with rheumatism in the muscles and thighs, though he did five miles during the night. His chance is virtually gone.

CONVITED. London, Nov. the Kent ass'zes at Madstone, Thomas McGrath, a seaman of the United States navy who killed a man in an attray at Gravesend in Angust last, has been convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to months' imprisonment with hard labor. It was proved on trial that Metruth was greatly provoked at the time of the homicide and that he bad borne a good character. SERIOUS DISTURBANCE.

Dublin, Nov. 2--A collision occurted between and the people at Headford, Taum county, originating in an attempt to remove some drunkards, and it 19 reported that many are seriusly injured on both sides. The house of a priest, who is opposed to the Land League, has been sacked at Limerick. BY CABLE. New York.

The total number of votes at noon were six thousand, nine hundred and fifty, an increase in the Republican wards of 103, aud a decrease in the democratic wards of 892. The police have arrested a number of S. marshals. Buffalo, N. Nov.

Dutchess county and Poughkeepsie complete gives Garfield 809 majority. New York, Nov. York city, in 160 out of 678 election districts, gives Hancock about 11,000 majority. Returns from ten towns in the interior show a Republican gain of 867 and a democratic gain of 3. New York.

Nov. election distriets give Hancock Garfield, 49.122. Buffalo, Nov. returns indicate that Erie gives Garfield 4,000 majority. New York.

Nov. towns in New York state give democratic gains of 745. New York, Nov. wards of Albany give a democratic majority of 265, a democratic gain of 1,278. According to the returns the indications are that Hancock's majority is about 35,000 so far, show a democratic loss of 25 per cent.

The indications from the interior are that Garfield will carry the State by 30,000. Brooklyn, Nov. of the 25 wards complete, give Garfield Hancock 34,540. The democratic majority in the city at this ratio, will hardla exceed 10,000. New York, Nov.

Wood beats Muller for congress by 2,000 majority. Hewitt is elected by a large majority. Utica, N. Nov. -Utica complete gives Hancock 149 majority.

Buffalo, Nov. Thirty-nine out of the 53 election districts of this city give Garfield Hancock 9,843. Republican gain 1,854. Bush, Republican for congress, run behind, but is elected by 1,000 majority. New York, Nov.

2. -Nin ety-six election districts for Mayor give Grace, democrat, Dowd, Republican, 12.473; for register. Docherty7, dem, 419; Hess, Republican, 12,21.6. Owego, N. Nov.

ioga county complete, with three districts estimated, give Garfield 1,200 majority. New York, Nov. Returns from 13 of the 16 wards of Albany show 1 net gain of 2,046. Monroe county gives Garfield a jority of a Republicau gain of Galveston, Nov. amocratic congressmen are elected in the 1st, 2nd, Bid, 4th and 6th districts; the 5th distriet is in doubt.

Shep ard, democrat, is thought to be elected by about 300 majority over Jones, in dependeut. Fort Wayne, Nov. Lutz's brewery was, distroyed this morning by an incendiary fire. Loss, $10,000. Quakertown, Nov.2.--The stone works of Thomas, Ro berts, Stevenson Co.

Returns from ten precinct in the Seventh congressional district indicate the election of Parsons, Republican, by 3,000 majority. Des Moines, Nov. from precincts casting about one and onehalf per cent.

of the vote of the state show Republican gains of 306 over the vote of last year. The precinets so far as heard from in the Sixth congressional district show a Republican gain of 208. Kentucky. Louisville, Nov. of 44 precinets in this city, with five precincts in the country, give 4,026 majority for Hancock, which is a gain of over 1,876.

Willis, democrat, is reelected to congress. The election is very quiet throughout the State. The election of McKinzie in the 2ud district, Caldwell in the 3rd, Knott in the 4th, Carlisle in the 6th, Blackburn in 7th, and Thompson in the 8th, is certain, all democrats and members of the present congress. Turner, it is believed, will be re-elected from the 9th discrict. Returns.

Florida is claimed by the Republican National connittee. New York is declared for Garfield and Arthur by 30,000 majority. Pennsylvania gives the Republican tickit 30,000 majority. Michigan goes 45,000 Republican, with some Republican counties to hear from. Nebraska comes to the front with 20,000 majority for Garfield and Arthur.

Massachusetts gives Garfield 20,000 majority and stands one democratio and ten Republican congressmen. New Hampshire only gives the Republican ticket 50,000 majority; that's all. Little Rhode Island shows her patriotism by a majority of 6,000 Republican. Maine kisses her hand at Weaver and gives Garfield 4,500 majority. Illinois comes to the front in right royal style with 30,000 Republica a jority.

Cook county gives a majority of 7,000 and Chicago a majority 0. 5,000 Republican. DEALERS IN ADDITIONAL LOCALS. Marriage Licenses not Returned.
