Blue Rapids photograph gallery is now run by a lady who is also quite accomplished in other art matters. those schools that, restricting the artists to the same methods, do not permit them to develop their individual feeling. Leavenworth has the most active local art association in the State. ART NOTES.

TRANGERS in Paris do not always meet with so good fortune as has befallen our young Topeka artist, Mr. Arthur E. Peck, who recently went to that city to pursue his art studies. We learn that he has secured remunerative employment in his line with one of the government commissions, which will not only assist him financially, but undoubtedly afford opportunities in other ways very acceptable. Griffith, a young artist of Emporia, who has recently returned from Europe, will paint a portrait of the late Senator Plumb for the gallery of noted Kansans at the State Capitol. Mr. Theo. Lescher, a former student at the Art School, also an accomplished musician, is putting his talent in that line to good use in Omaha. Prof.

Worrall has made sketches of the Carbon-dale Mineral Springs and surroundings. Miss Evans exhibit of China Painting at Library Hall, has elicited many compliments. Mr. Duncan, a member of last years life class, was a visitor at the Art School a few days since. He is teaching in Campbell University, at Holton.

A Camera Club is talked of by Topeka Amateur photographers. Much good might grow out of it and much enjoyment to the members. BUSINESS NOTES. HE Chicago Lumber Co. are staying with the people on prices and quality of lumber, and as a consequence their trade is opening up promisingly this spring.

The Johnson Fuel Gas and Construction Co. have contracted to put in a gas plant for Horton. Their process for manufacture of gas from petroleum seems to be a complete success. A public exhibit or test of the system will be given soon at the works in Auburndale. F.

C. Sears is showing a handsome line of wall papers and decorations at his store in the Keith Block. His salesroom is an attractive resort just now. E. Horn Co.

have the contract for making cases for the new Ruthven Gas Apparatus, the right for which was recently purchased by Topeka parties who will soon have the machine on the market in good shape. The Chicago Graphic is taking the lead as a western illustrated paper. Its weekly and quarterly editions are things of beauty. The Worlds Columbian Exposition of course is a constant subject of interest both in the illustrations and reading columns. i VI -W'VM1 -nirp-7.
