The estimate was 330,000,000 and finally reached 400,000,000. Some men in this city are still earnestly hankering after police commissioners, Every man thinks he could ran the business better than any one else. Why dont some one mention the Jersey cow again. Bah! There is a very pale consumptive attack being made on Gov. Morrill by the friends of the open saloons in this city.

In the meantime Gov. Morrill still goes on with his duties as cheif magistrate of the state of Kansas. Before the election the Wichita Eagle said that the local Republican ticket ought to be defeated. It kicked criticised, complained and howled. It finally came partially to its senses and began to declare that the eh rtion of the populist ticket was the defeat and death of the Eagle.

A public meeting was called and 200 men were set to work to undo the Eagles work in setting Republicans for the home rule or populist ticket. They labored in vain; the Eagle blubbered and bellered in vain. The entire local Republican ticket, except Gordon for state senator, was defeated, and all for whiskey. The Eagle has lost what little respect, confidence and esteem Republicans of Sedgwick county had for it. Waluut Valiev Times.
