It is indulged in by young and old, men and women.

The laborer, the doctor, the business man, the minister of the Gospel, and the millionaire all fancy the feathered beauties and delight in taking care of them, studying their habits and watching their graceful movements. They keep them for pastime, recreation from business cares and to have some beautiful pets around the place. The parents get them for the boys to kep them at home; they are the most fascinating of all oets lor the boys, and instead of running around on the streets, getting in all kinds of mischief, they will be staying at home taking care of and playing with their pets. The breeding of them is a study of nature, to watch the youngsters develop the different shapes and colors and formation of feathers is certainly very fascinating and attractive, probably more so than an 3 other pet stock. While the keeping of fancy pigeons is one of the most innocent and pleasurable hobbies, it is also an inexpensive one.

It does not take a fancy building to keep them in; it is not expensive to feed them it does not take very much time to take care of them. A pair of pigeons can be bought as cheap as anything else in the way of a nice pet, and cheaper than lots of other pets. Therefore the poor man or boy can have them as well as the rich. Where, for want of means, no suitable building can be had, anything else will do. A corner of the barn loft, an old woodshed, or even a large box set up on legs will answer very well.

Their main food being corn, wheat and kaffir corn, which is not expensive, makes them easy keepers. As any number may be kept in one place, there is not more than one place to feed and water, and as they will eat no more than what they need, they need only be fed once a day, enough to last them all day; watering is comparatively easy also. As to variety we can suit the most fastidious. They are bred in an almost numberless variety of shapes and colors. Each distinct in formation, shape of head, body, tail, wings and legs.

In some of the leading varieties we have as high as twenty different colors, making so many sub-varieties. A person not pleased with just the plain white Fantail, for instance, can have the same also in black, blue, red and yellow solid. He can have the white Fantail with saddlebacks in all the above colors, then again a pure white body with black, red, blue or yellow tail, so that we may have a collection of probably twenty-rive different colors in the Fantail family alone. Then comes the Jacobin, in five or six different colors, then the Pouter, Carrier, Tumbler, Magpie, Tur bit. Swallow, Homer, and several more, each in from four to ten different colors and make-ups.

As a rule pigeons are very hardy, if reasonable care is taken as to feeding, watering and. housing; especially so with birds which can be allowed their liberty, and that should be the case whenever it is possible to do so Where they must be kept in confinement, they should have a wire cage as large as possible, so they may have some exercise, and they must be sup plied with such as grit, sand, green food, which they would find if flying loose and which tends to keep them in good health. They are very clean in their habits, and unless they are very crowded in their abode it is very little work to keep them clean They are very thankful for a bath, and it should be given them as often as possible, as it keeps their plumage in. fine shape and also rids them of vermin, thereby helping to keep them feeling good and healthy I 3 If you are looking for standard bred Barred Rocks, of the best strain in America write me, all correspondence will have my personal attention.
