Agent tor New Home Sewing Machine LANG'S SHOE STORE, Third Street, Burlington, Kansas WHAT THEY FAVOR SENATOR KENNEDY AND REPRESENTATIVE SWEET GIVE THEIR VIEWS. Tell What Legislation They Want Enacted: at the Next SessionTheir Ideas Seem to Be Good Ones. In answer to a request from the Mail and Breeze for their opinions on what the legislature should do, Senatsr Kennedy and Representative Sweet of this city gave their views. Senator Kennedy favors making appropriations large enough to cover the needs of the state institutions SO that they may not be crippled for lack of funds; favors new railroad legislation and expresses his opinion on road laws as follows: would favor a change in our present road law, making all taxes tor road purposes payable in cash to the county treasurer, the dismissal of all road overseers, the election of three road commissioners, one from each commissioner's district in each county, who as a board would have authority to distribute taxes collected for road purposes, preference being given to resident taxpayers of the county to work out an amount equal to their road tax, and to receive the same in money. This would distribute all railroad and other taxes for road purposes alike throughout the county, would lessen the expense of road over.

seers, and secure much better roads." Representative Sweet wants: A good railroad bill fair alike to the the people and roads, a law permitting registration of absent voters by certificate, a few changes in existing law." Frank Drum of Potawatomie ship and Miss Nellie Hill of near Westphalia were married December 26 at the Catholic parsonage in Westphalia by the Rev. John Redeker. A wedding reception was held afterward at the home of the mother, Mrs. Susan Hill north of Westphalia and many relatives and friends were present. Mr.

and Mrs. Drum are well known and popular and their married life promises to be a bappy one. Brown--Chestnut. Robert Brown and Miss Nora Chestnut, both of Waverly, were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr, and Mrs. A.

R. Chestnut, Christmas eve, by the Rev. J. D. Smith.

A large company of relatives and friends witnessed the ceremony and enjoyed a splendid wedding supper. Mr. and Mrs. Brown will live in Waverly where they have many friends, The Weather. The indications are for fair weather tonight and tomorrow.

Warmer tomorrow. Devil Wanted. THE JEFF wants a devil. No cigaret fiend need apply. The popular opinion is that children can not marry in Kansas without the consent of their parents or guardians, but the attorney general says boys of 14 may marry girls of 12 if they want to and the girl does not object.

But if they should marry at that age, the wedding reception should take the form of a spanking bee. There is talk in some neighboring towns about extending the telephone line from Williamsburg to Burlington, giving direct communication with Ottawa and Kansas City. There is no agitation concerning the matter here. Tuesday's Daily will be printed on Monday so that the force may enjoy a holiday on the first day of the new century. Advertisers are requested to remember this and get changes in early Monday morning.
