Now that these tactics have begun to incur disfavor at the White House, it may be not altogether vain to hope that hereafter this administration may adopt a more happy attitude towards American business and American business men. PURVEYORS OE POVERTY Secretary Redfield bristles with indignation. He speaks in Indianapolis, where the President on January 9 bluntly reminded the Democratic party that it is still on trial and demanded of it team work and obedience to him as captain. But his Secretary of Commerce harks back to the mood of the Wilson speech of December 17, 1912, when, as President-elect, he promised to build a gibbet as high as Hamans for anyone who might try to start a panic. The President gave up the gibbetbuilding business when he became President.

But Secretary Redfield lingers in the atmosphere of his captain's Southern Society address, and the ill humor bred in him by criticism of his partys Tariff policy comes to a head in this eruption: The purveyors of poverty for personal purposes will in due time go to their own places unwept, pnhonored and unsung, followed by the deserved curses of the deceived, falling into the limbo of the calamity We Recommend That You Use Lame Back. President Wilson, it is reported, has joined the ranks of those who disapprove of the attitude of Chairman Walsh in the treatment of wit-aeeses before the Federal Relations committee and has already recognized the fact that the chairmans course has practically rendered the work of that committee, valueless. Mr. Walsh has all along, apparently assumed that he should adopt a threatening, offensive attitude towards a certain class of witnesses, an attitude which he perhaps has unconsciously absorbed from the present administration. Mr.

Wilson himself had hardly assumed office before he began to hold out the threat of hanging people as high as Haman. Secretary Redfield has been particularly bitter in criticism and denunciation, Secretary McAdoo and Comptroller Williams have been accused of virtual sandbagging, so It is not altogether surprising that 93HairTonic Jennings Drug Co.
