There will be more beautiful and costly articles disposed of at this fair than at any former one ever held in the state. In addition to the gold watch to be voted for, with P. V. Healy and Ben Kelsch contesting for the prize, the following valuable property will be drawn by tickets: A valuable lot in the academy addition worth $2(X, a $60 bedroom set, an elegant tea set, a superb silk crazy patch quilt, together with a large collection of valuable articles that will either be drawn or sold at auction to the highest bidder. See the list of donations from our citizens in this paper and the one-half is not yet told.

The ladies of the congre-tion are busy as never before to get everything in readiness and to dress the booths and adorn the opera house for the occasion. Neither labor nor cost will be spared to make this the grandest thing of the kind ever witnessed in Wichita. The fair will he held in the opera house and not in the basement of the church as heretofore stated. Big Hunters. There is a fine prospect just now for Wichita becoming the seat of the largest boot and manufactories west of the State of New York.

Representatives of three of the largest hoot and shoe factories in the United States were in the city this week looking over the situation and there is but little doubt that they are well pleased ith the prospect. If our committee of twenty will secure a large boot and shoe factory and a packing house, these ill settle the future of Wichita. The news that extensive concerns in these lines had been decided upon, sent over the wires, would attract more capital to the city than the news that we had voted bonds for twenty new railroads. 5Iore could be done right now to establish the commercial and industrial supremacy of Wichita, than any man in our city seems to comprehend and if our council and committee of twenty will buckle on their armor and do the business, the Nation will say, well done, good and faithful servants. But if they do not well, they are goners.

Now the Nation will lay out the work: First secure the packing house and the boot and shoe factory, next get a system of sewerage ready so that all the idle laborers in the city can work on it the coming winter, and the money will all be spent among our business men. Next compel Jay Gould to build repair shops here and both he and the Santa Fe build respectable depots, else pull up their side tracks. The next move then would be to organize a steam heating company that will furnish uniform heat in every house in the city. There is no need for stock yards before spring. Do these things and the future of Wichita is assured.
