Mr. G. G. Burton, editor of this department is still in Michigan, and his contributions have not reached us up to the hour of going to press. A Bad Habit for a Dog.

You should not allow your dog to get into the habit of running and barking at a horse or a person. If he is doing it, break him of it at once, as it can be done by calling him to you when in the act and scolding him. Sometimes you will be obliged to use a little whip, and if so switch him sharply over his back. Any dog can be broken of this by proper punishment at the time, or of any other fault if he is punished, and knows what it is for. If you whip your dog after the fault, it does no good and is only an unnecessary task.

Always see that you catch him in the act. Dont get excited and angry, but keep cool, for the dog will notice this the same as a person, and the punishment loses its effect. Never strike him over the head as this is a very tender part of the dog, and never kick him, for that is nothing more or less than brutal. Your dog is very fond of you almost from the first day he comes into your possession, and it will make no difference in regard to his close attachment to you, if he gets a deserved Whipping is not necessary with all dogs, as in some cases scolding will answer the purpose, and is far more preferable, especially in old dogs. There never were any truer words spoken than Al.

G. Eber-harts when he said You can reason with all dogs. Tne punishment should fit the crime, therefore use judgment. When your dog deserves praise, dont be stingy with it, but talk to him; hell understand your words and caresses, and by his actions, the loving looks ftom his eyes and the wag of his tail, hell show you how much he appreciates The Dog. On the large establishment, where hundreds of ducks are raised, the principal food for them is cooked turnips, with a small proportion of ground grain. No crop can be grown to better advantage than turnips, and in no way can turnips be grown so profitably as to feed them to ducks. Ducks and turnips are adjuncts to each other on the duck farms, tor without tur FOR SALE A tine litter of Gieat Dane Puppies, blue and brindle, out of Princess (De Mello Lady Spot,) winner of first in puppy class, Chicago, 1897; sired by the great Osceola Bey (Earl of Wurtenburg Champion Osceola Neverzell) winner of many prizes and sire of Champion Leo G.
