'The World -Making Business Percey S. Walker Prescription Druggist S. W. Corner 6th 4 Jeckson St. Topeka, Ks T.

V. Campbell Everything Druggy 704 Kansas Ave The statement that all things are possible withTGod should not be taken too literally. There are some things which a law-abiding God cannot do, or at least does not do. He does not exempt himself from the laws which he has made for the governing of the universe. He does not make laws for us to obey and break them constantly himself.

Having given us the perfect law in na-j ture he does not seek a short cut to any desired end, but lets the law take its course. We hardly ever ask the proprietor of a big factory to set aside his rules. It is of no use to ask God to set aside his. If we want to do anything for ourselves the way to begin is to understand the laws of nature and avail ourselves of the provisions of the law. If we are in trouble we have set in motion the causes of it.

An understanding of natural law will enable us to stop setting these causes in motion. But it is hardly fair to expect God to bother his head much about it when he has provided a perfectly natural means of escape. And besides if God was disposed to set aside or suspend a law just to satisfy some favorite mortal, the failure of- that one law would throw the whole universe out of tune. And that wouldnt pay. When on a clear night one searches the sky for the farthest -speck of light, and knows a faint white spot in the far off either to be a roaring mass of flame larger than our whole solar system, and realizes that this un thinkably large body to be only -one of a vast myriad of heavenly bodies, some old, some young, -some in the prime of usefulness, the portentous affairs that shake -our world pale into insignificance.

For the earth itself might -sink into oblivion unnoticed, so small a part it plays in the physical universe. How utterly impossible it seems that the creator and moving principal of all these vast array of worlds and potential worlds should interpose himself in our petty affairs. God is in the business of making worlds. Yet we ascribe to him the qualities and inclinations of a back-yard-fence gossip. We picture him interfering with this that and the other matter which concerns ourselves personally.

We fondly hope that he is going to slug someone we dont like behind the ear with a cudgel of Divine providence just to satisfy some of our prejudices. We think he will have to do something like that in order to sustain his reputation of being a just God. We would not entertain such notions of a successful manager of an automobile factory, why should we think it of the being who owns and operates the world-making factory?
