Every thief taker should be a stenographer. Shorthand is an invaluable aid in taking confessions and procuring evidence. Easily learned. To more extensively introduce our improved system of instruction in shorthand, on rec eip of $1.00 and 3 stamps, we will forward text books, containing a complete series of 40 lessons, detailed directions for studying them, and exercise sheets to be sent to us for correction. He is 37 or 40 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches in height, slim build, weight about 140 pounds, dark hazel eyes, dark hair, intermingled with gray, full beard, and mus-taohe cropped short also somewhat gray. The County Commissioners of Berks have offered a reward of $250 for evidence that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the murderer or murderers of Mathias Berger, whose badly decomposed body was found in a secluded part of Albany township, in that county on Thursday July 23, 1890. Berger was a hermit and had no intimate acquaintances, bnt no enemies as far as known.

He had been dead 8 or 10 days when found, and there were strong evidences of a foul murder. Send all information to J. L. HEFFNER, Upper Bern, Pa. would weigh about 1400 pounds.

C. PARKER $300 RE WARD Will be paid for the arrest and detention of C. C. PARKER, who is wanted at Girard, for rape. He is in Ontario, Canada.

He is about 49 years old; height about 5 feet 11 inches; weight about 175 pounds; eyes not easily described, sort of blue or steel gray. When last seen (May 16, 1888) had beard, mustache, and hair, which are gray, dyed black; has a very peculiar voice, not squealing, but somewhat like it, sort of hollow sounding; has been a fugitive from justice since 1888; is a quack doctor; was arrestedMay 14 and escaped May 16, 1888. Has only 9 teeth, 4 upper and 5 lower; has no double teeth; hair is thin on top of head, nearly bald; has his family with him; wife and three children; one boy (the oldest) and two girls; at one time dressed the boy in girls clothes and the girls in boys clothes. His wife is about 30 years old; hair red or nearly red; when last seen his and his wifes hair were dyed black. They are both doctors, and are abortionists, He is a good talker, uses good language, and will use good argument that he is not the man wanted.

Description of property stolen: One dark, drapped gray mare pony, well built, 6 years old, very stylish. New open buggy, stick body, gear painted red, coil spring manufactured by Mason, Battle Creek, Mich. Sett of harness, partly worn, piece that holds blinds has been slit and sewed up.

Hip straps and colar straps have been pieced and ripped off, padded lines rosewed. Perkins wind mill model and small leather satchel in the buggy. $50. reward will be paid by Lancaster county for conviction of thief, and $25. will be paid by the owners, Barber and Fowler, for return of property.
