The County Commissioners of Berks have offered a reward of $250 for evidence that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the murderer or murderers of Mathias Berger, whose badly decomposed body was found in a secluded part of Albany township, in that county on Thursday July 23, 1890. Berger was a hermit and had no intimate acquaintances, bnt no enemies as far as known.

When last seen (May 16, 1888) had beard, mustache, and hair, which are gray, dyed black; has a very peculiar voice, not squealing, but somewhat like it, sort of hollow sounding; has been a fugitive from justice since 1888; is a quack doctor; was arrestedMay 14 and escaped May 16, 1888. Has only 9 teeth, 4 upper and 5 lower; has no double teeth; hair is thin on top of head, nearly bald; has his family with him; wife and three children; one boy (the oldest) and two girls; at one time dressed the boy in girls clothes and the girls in boys clothes. His wife is about 30 years old; hair red or nearly red; when last seen his and his wifes hair were dyed black. They are both doctors, and are abortionists, He is a good talker, uses good language, and will use good argument that he is not the man wanted.
