In the stomach of the monster there were found, it is claimed, two fish-hooks aud a Hue, a ten-penny nail, a gold ring and a registered letter addressed to a resldeut of Richmond, Va.

This dose is a little large but must go down. It is said that Tumhlesome Tomlinson has flopped aguiu. This time we hope he hag gone into the Salvation Army, He never has, to our knowledge, been on the winning side. The Democrats of Kansas never scored a point while lie was la the party, and the Republican party lost the State the first election after he flopped into that pnrty. The little fish that left the Democratic pint last fall in Kansas, aud crawled into the Repuiilican mud hole are making the waters roll again in their efforts to get bick into the clear swim.

They are at the edge of the bank crying for Senator Martin to throw them one small morsel of political food. They will find that Senator Martin is not looking for sharks or dog fish in giving out the public patronage. Scientists, some years ago, claimed that life could be infused Into a dead body by means of electricity, but it did not prove successful on human beings, Terence MoG rant and his backers might successful If they would apply electricity on the carcass the People's party buried last November, aud if successful, prove ttiat electricity has influence iu the brimstone regions, where the remains can lie found. The Republican bus received two half butternuts from a man in Indiana, requesting the editor of this paper to forward one to R. B.

Welch and the other to Col. Hughes. The donor says they are the ones he ana one of his neighbors wore in 18G2, and as they are in full sympathy with Welch and Hughes in their revolutionary schemes wishes to reward them with the emblems of disloyalty in 18G2. The gentlemen can have the emblems by calling at this office. The Boys in Blue iij a purely patriotic order and non political, so its admirers say, but Boinehow or other, we do not know a single man who belongs to It ex cept a Populist.

Saturday Lance. It is almost eless to take notice of such little squibs us the above. The young in w.i edits the Lance has not got sufficiently dry behind the ears to know very much anyway. lie probably takes his schooling from the men who rebelled against the State a week or two ago, and is blind to all patriotic motives coming from the loyal men of the State. When R.

B. Welch had charge of the forces arrayed against the Slate, be went to sleep iu one of the rooms where he had his forces rendezvous) aud the boys burnt cork and blackened bis face. Whet; lie awoke and looked at himself in a glass, he thought that the Lord had sent a curse oon him as lie had done unto THE BEST HUSBAND. Here Are Descriptions of Him From Many Points of View, The ideal husband Is here described. It will be noted that tastes differ as to wbat sort of man makes the bBt life partner.

The standard by which one good husband Is measured would In noway fit another good husband, whose wife thought him quite perfection. Here are some of the definitions most reoently received: The best husband most delights in his wife, ceaselessly cherishing mutual love, and honoring her by maintaining personal dignity and consistency of life. One who has mastered himself and the soience of Hvllhood; loving faithful, forgiving; ruliDg tenderly a weak woman and inspiring homage in a sensible woman. An ideal husband Is one who loves his wife more than all else excepting his God; being strictly moral; regarding his wife as bis dearest friend and companion. The man who thinks his wife can cook as good, if not better, than his mother need to; who always admires his wifes hats aDd gowns; and remains so in love that any criticism seems unnecessary.

A man having mental and physical health, loving his wife for his wifes sake, living a life that honors her lie confides In his wife aud merits her confidence. lie is considerate, Affectionate, constant, and discreetly Indulgent, and is unequivocally the head of tve family. The man who lives according to the best of his ability; up to all t.h sacred vows he has taken before God and man. One who ia sympathetic and considerate; strong to protect nnd da fend, yet gentle, tender and chivalrous, who loves passionately but without coarseness; a master of himself. A man who is noble and generous who has a neart where envy and unthankfulness find no place, where love and gentleness are the presiding angels.

The man that will smile a warm, genial, heartfelt smile when please him, even though he may frown when dont Patient, kind, loving, tender and true, regarding his wifes honor and his own so that he respects the honor of all women. A gentleman who honors, loves, cherishes, ministers to and conducts himself toward his wife the same after marriage as before; granting her equal rights, liberties aid privileges. A man of honor and probity, of intelligence and judgment, Gil fearing and temperate without fanaticism. One who knows his own weaknesses and never chides his ED. G.

Its funny, isnt it, how quickly the Capital dropped the bond question, when the Peoples party began showing up the utter worthlessness of the bond of the Republican treasurer. 'Terence McGkant of the Capital is knocked out again. The editor of the Repuiilican called at the Pop office the other day and saw a box of soap lying on the editors desk. House cleaning season, you know. The Santa Fe company has certainly struck a bananza.

When a case is brought against them in the district court it cau appeal to Judge Ilortou. lie is a safe and sure remedy for all evils in the Santa Fe body. The same day last week that a million dollars worth of dogs were put on exhibition in New York, eight starving children were found in the poor quarter of the city. That is nineteenth century civilization for you. It is safe to say that at least one half the Democratic visitors who went to Washington on the pretense of seeing Cleveland inaugurated went there lor another purpose, and will remain until they hear something drop.

At West Lynn, the other day, a locomotive was coupled to a large electric power was applied to them in opposite directions. For some time neither gained an inch, but finally with the aid of sand thrown on the track the locomotive came off victorious. Mn. Lease of Wichita, in trying to find his wife Bends out the following touching bit of poetry to the papers that it may meet his wandering spouse: Say I if our fate, a cruel lot, Hath cut our hearts assever, Why, Mary, bring my trousers hack, And then go vote forever. Eli Moore of Lawrence, an old-time Topeka printer is in Washington, pre sumably baiting for the Lawrence post office or something better from President Cleveland.

Eli has done lots of hard work for the Democracy of Kansas, and his friends would be glad to hear of his services being rewarded. As both the warring factions in this State claim a political victory over the other and settled down to active legislative work, it may be Bald that it is a kind of sugar beet for which Kansas soil is famed. If this thing should get to Holland what an intllux of emigration we would have from that country to Kansas. The Capital has gotten through showing up Adjutant General Artz, and for fear it may run out of something good to tell its readers, we would suggest that it take up Judge Strang. From evidence in possession of the Republican it might make interesting reading if it could be put in cypher so that the papers could go through the mails.
