KANSAS WORKER 3 ESSEX. Perhaps some would like to hear from the newly organized church at Essex, in the South-west District. The following report is for the last quarter. Two persons were added to our church, making our present membership 22. Our Sabbath school donations, all of which were sent to Foreign Missions, amounted to tithe $288.52, and offerings to the Southern work $110.96.

Although we are twenty miles from Garden City, (railroad town), four of our members ordered 100 copies each of the Review and Herald. We are all of good courage and are making it our duty to evangelize our surrounding country. Elder Sutton recently paid us a short visit, and informs us that he will perhaps return in January to preach at Eminence. We ask the prayers of the WORKER readers that we might faithfully carry the third angel's message in this section. LINCOLN BLACK, Clerk.

Obituary at his home in Ottawa, Kansas, Nov. 24, 1908, Bro. John Adams, aged 73 years and 4 days. He enlisted as a soldier from Johnson County, and served his country thus for three years. Feb.

18, 1864 he was united in marriage to Colombia Turner. To this union were born six children, four of whom died in infancy. He with his family accepted present truth in 1876. He has lived a consistent Christian life, and expressed himself as being ready to die. He asked them to sing, and while they sang he fell asleep to await the return of the Lord.

He leaves a wife and two children to mourn. The son, John I. Adams, resides in Alberta, Canada. The daughter, Lucy B. Adams, will live with her mother.

The funeral was conducted by the writer in the Ottawa Seventh-day Adventist church, from Rev. 14:13. B. W. BROWN.

Fleming. -Mary L. Fleming, wife of J. E. Fleming, was born Oct.

25, 1877, and died Nov. 28, 1908, aged 31 years, 1 month, and 3 days. She was converted at an early age and joined the Methodist church, later joining the Presbyterian church. Four years ago she became acquainted with the truth through the labors of Sr. K.

Dick, while working at Ft. Scott, and joined the church at that place. She leaves a husband and six children to mourn her loss. Yet they do not mourn as those who have no hope. During her life she taught her children to live Christian lives, and in her last hours her thoughts were for God to lead them in right paths.

We laid her away in the Highland Cemetery at Wichita, to await the coming of the Life Giver. Words of comfort were spoken by the writer from John 11:25, 26. Dr. F. E.

Braucht assisted in the service. H. E. KIRK. Durkee.

-Died at her home in Chanute, Kansas, Dec. 4, 1908, Sr. Laura Durkee, aged 51 years, 9 months, and 14 days. She was united in marriage Nov. 18, 1880 to Alonzo Durkee; and to them were born six children.

Sister Durkee was converted and united with the Seventh-day Adventist church at the age of nine years, of which church she was a member at the time of her death. She fell asleep with the hope that soon Jesus would call all the sleeping saints. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn, but not as those who have no hope. Words of comfort were spoken by the writer from Amos. 4:12, to an attentive audience.

We then laid her to rest in the Elmwood Cemetery. B. W. BROWN. at Rosemont, aged 35 years, 11 months, and 14 days, Bro.

Francis G. Yeager, the son of Joel and Eunice Yeager. His death was caused by a complication of diseases which had caused him to suffer for sometime. Evidences that he sleeps in Jesus were very manifest. Many relatives and friends sorrow, but not without hope.

A discourse was preached by the writer in the Methodist church at Rosemont to a large audience of sympathizing friends, on the subject, "The Restoration of all Things." L. F. TRUBEY. Viola Weissert was born May 12, 1887, in Salt Creek Township, Reno County, and died at the home of her parents in Hutchinson, Oct. 22, 1908, aged 21 years, 5 months, and 10 days.

Her exemplary life and gentle, amiable disposition won for her a host of friends. We are admonished that "There is a reaper whose name is death, and with sickle keen, He reaps the bearded grain at a breath, And the flowers that grow between; But God's will, not ours, be done." She leaves to mourn her love, a father, a mother, four sisters, and three brothers. The writer spoke to a large congregation from 1 Cor. 25. Bro.

H. L. Shafer of Newton assisted in the service. H. E.

KIRK. -James G. Laird was born in Pennsylvania, Oct. 12, 1836, and died Nov. 24, 1908, aged 72 years, 1 month, and 12 days.

His death resulted from an accident at Pierceville. In gathering coal on the Santa Fe tracks, he tied his team on one side of the track, and was picking up coal on the other side. Hearing the approach of a train, which was going sixty miles an hour, he attempted to cross the track to hold his team. He was struck by the pilot block and death came perhaps instantly. He has a wife and sons and daughters in Colorado.

The funeral was held Sunday, November 29, at Essex, Elder Sutton officiating. The remains were buried in the Eminence Cemetery. The deceased was convinced of the truth of the third angel's message a little over a year ago, and soon after was buried in baptism. All who were acquainted with him firmly believe he will rise in the first resurrection. The funeral was well attended considering the weather.
