THE QUARTETTE CHOIR Motette and Anthem Collection. By W. F. SUDDS. This work is by no means intended for use by four singers only, but merely that its contents consist of a class of music which in most cases require at least one voice for each part competent to properly render a solo; otherwise a large chorus in connection with the quartette, should, whenever possible, be availed of.

Price, handsomely bound in half cloth, $1.00, or $10.00 per dozen. THE CHURCH CHOIR TREASURY -OF---SACRED TRIOS. -BY W. F. of "Anthem Gems," "Quartette Choir," etc.

Church Organists and Choir Directors will find this a most desirable work, containing as it does a choice selection of Trios, arranged for either three of the four voice parts. For fear that a wrong impression may arise from the word "Trios," we would say that most of the music found in the selection is as well adapted for three-part chorus as for soli performers. Among the numerous collections of Anthems that have been published, none, we feel certain, were more needed or more heartily welcomed than Church Choir Treasury." Price, bound in boards, $10.00 per dozen. LAUS DEO --INSACRED DUETS. By GEORGE C.

The thousands of choirs using either volume of Sudds' Anthem Gems, will be glad to avail themselves of this, the first opportunity to procure a collection of secular music (which choirs so often require for social and concert purposes) by the same favorite author. The work is beautifully printed, bound in Full Cloth, and has an attractive appearance. Price, only $1.00. Death of Pierre Solidor Milon, ONE OF THE SEVEN SURVIVORS OF THE WARS OF THE FIRST NAPOLEON. Pierre Solidor Milon, a distinguished soldier under Napoleon Bonaparte, died last night from general breaking down of the system, at his late residence, No.

333 Julianna Street, Philadelphia. The deceased was born in Nice, Piedmont, Italy, November 19th, 1787. But little is known of his history until July 4th, 1806, when he enlisted in the Ninth Division, Second Regiment Infantry," in France. In his home on Julianna Street the deceased soldier kept an old, yellow certificate, written in French and encased in a gilt frame. It is dated 1817, and gives a record of Milon's service as a soldier.

Over the upper edge of the paper a faded red band is folded, with an enameled Maltese cross attached. This certificate shows, in tabulated form, that he attained the following successive promotions: "Corporal, 19th November, 1806; ensign, 15th October, 1807; sergeant, 28th June, 1809; sergeant major, Ist July, 1809; adjutant, October 29th, 1811; lieutenant, 18th June, 1812; Chevalier Legion of Honor, 7th September, 1812; prisoner at Wilna, Poland, on the retreat from Russia, 12th December, 1812; escaped to France July, 1814; lieutenant on non-active list, May 1817; full term of service, ten years, nine months, twenty-five days." Opposite to the table of promotions is a column showing the campaigns he was engaged in: "1806, Prusse; 1807, Pomeraine-Auldris; 1809, Autriche; 1812, Russia; 1813-1814, Prissonier de guerra a Wilna a la retraite de Russe." It is said of his imprisonment in and escape from Wilna that Mr. Milon was thrown into a cell without heat, stripped of everything but underclothing, and in that condition he got out at night and ran away in the snow and bitter winter climate. He was rescued and sent back to France by a friend. In 1819 he sailed from Marseilles for this country, landing in Nova Scotia.

From there he made his way to New York. Joseph Bonaparte, the Count de Survilliers and the dethroned monarch, was then living alternately at Bordentown, N. and in Philadelphia. Milon sought Bonaparte, who at that time was in Charleston. Milon started after and found him there.

From Charleston Milon started out through the Western United States and Mexico, on a mission for Joseph. In Mexico he was made a prisoner at the Mexican Inquisition for criticizing a painting of Christ. On his release his mission for the exiled Bonaparte was extended to South America, through which he traveled to Terra del Fuego. On his return to the United States Milon became a teacher of music and foreign languages. He traveled through the south, and became engaged in the Mayo family, of Virginia, in the capacity of tutor.

It is said that none of the people of the Old Dominion showed more interest in his career as a soldier than General Winfield Scott. Milon next appeared in New York in 1848, and, in 1859, returned to Philadelphia, where he married his second wife, by whom he had four children, two sons and two daughters, all of whom are living. By his first wife he had twelve children. He devoted his musical talents to earning a livelihood. For many years he played one of the leading violins in the orchestras of the Walnut and Arch Street Theatres, besides giving private instructions.

His last performance in public was at an entertainment at the Academy of Music, some years ago. He took part in the Bi-Centennial parade in 1882, as a member of the Italian Beneficial Society. For many years the deceased kept a lock of hair which he had received from Napoleon at the Isle of Elba. He parted with this about two years ago, how ever, giving it to Mrs. Lawrence, of Doylestown, who took a deep interest in Milon's career, and who lived at Florence during the time her husband was the United States Consul General to Italy.
