8 For 10 years he has been county surveyor of Mitchell county. N. L. Wilson located in Mitchell county in 1880 and has been identified with the interests of his section ever since. He has built up an extensive business, examines titles, looks after rents and taxes for nonresidents, represents some of the most reliable insurance companies, makes a specialty of collections, and does a general real estate, collection and insurance business.

He has one of the largest lists of properties of all kinds for sale, trade and exchange of any dealer in Kansas, is thoroughly reliable and competent and when you want trustworthy information concerning north, northwest and western Kansas, or when you want to deal with a man who can and will treat you right call on or address N. L. Wilson, of Beloit. Born in Mahaska county, lowa, 46 years ago, N. L.

Wilson came to Kansas in 1879 and has done much since that time to attract attention of immigrants to the wonderful resources of this great state. Benedict, the well-known dealer of Topeka, would be like Romeo and Juliet with Romeo left out of the play. Not only is he prominent in real estate and financial circles but has always taken an active part in every enterprise that has for its object the improve- THE REAL ESTATE INVESTOR. ment of his home city, county or state. His biographer must be resourceful who can do full justice to Mr. Benedict, because of the hand he has taken in forwarding the numerous plans in and about Topeka for her betterment.

To mention these would consume more space than can here be allotted. He has made a business record during his 15 year's residence here that deserves more than a passing notice. Mr. Benedict is a native of Illinois, being born in Prairie City, October, 1858. It is not too much to say that he is an estimable citizen, an able lawyer and a most successful real estate dealer.

After finishing a course in the public schools of his native city he attended the state normal at Bloom- After completing his law course he 1o- cated at Larned, in this state, and opened a real estate, law and loan office and by his energy and honorable dealing soon built up an extensive business. Since locating in Topeka he has made a splendid record, examining titles, making collections and handling real estate generally. So extensive had his business become that several years ago he quit the general law practice and now confines his legal transactions to land and corporate law. He owns one of the handsomest homes in Topeka and was the first real estate dealer in the state, and so far as known the only one, to own an automobile in which HOME OF E. W.

He is he was a successful teacher in McLain and Platt counties and then entered the Illinois Wesleyan university. Then in order to get means to complete his legal education he again taught three terms of school in McLain county and entered the law office of Governor Joseph Fifer, at Bloomington, where he studied for three years, during which time he took the law course at Wesleyan College, from which he graduated in 1886. It was while a student at Bloomington that he first came into public notice as a speaker of great force and eloquence.

Another real estate dealer of whom much might be said, who has done and is still doing much to help those wandering in the wilderness to get to this land of Canaan, is J. D. Miller, of Topeka, senior member of the firm of Miller Clark, who came here in 1886 and has been engaged in the real estate business since. Mr. Miller is a native of Summit county, Ohio, born in 1843, and when still a boy came with his parents to Iowa in 1854 and a year later to Kirksville, Mo.

He worked on a farm there till the war broke out when he entered the army and served till the close in 1866. In the fall of 1866 he was appointed deputy sheriff of his home county, Adair, serving eight years and was then elected to the office, serving two terms, and was then appointed postmaster at Kirksville which position he held one term when a change in the administration occurred. Mr. Miller is one of the most reliable real estate men in the state and is building a splendid business. His knowledge of land values is almost unerring and his judgment makes him an able advisor with those seek- terprising and progressive and withal a sociable gentleman whom it is a pleasure to meet and one whom the INVESTOR is pleased to count among its friends and recommend to its readers as one of the largest and most prominent real estate dealers in Kansas, one in every way well worthy of all confidence.
