In all probability the board of education 'at Iola, Kansas, will be ready for bids for the construction of a school building for that city the last of next week.

Architects Thos. W. Williamson of Topeka, have practically completed plans and specifications for the work. Explicit instructions as to the receiving and opening of bids for this building will be published in' next weeks issue of this paper. It will probably be the middle of October before bids are opened.

W. A. Wheeler is clerk of the board of education at Iola. The building is to be a two story structure, 88x64, of brick, stone trim and concrete A contract was formerly awarded to Carson Zollars, of Wellington, Kansas, this week for the construction of a school building for Wayside, Kansas, plans for which were prepared by Architect C. A.

Henderson, of Cof-feyville, Kansas. The contract price was $11,375. Chas; Dillmore, of G'of-feyville, presented a bid of $11,522 and Bert also of Coffeyville, bid $11,625. The building is to be one story and basement in height, 56x73, and will contain four rooms. It will be of brick and stone construction.

The heating, plumbing and wiring contracts were included in the general contract. Wayside is about ten miles northwest of Coffeyville on the Santa Fe. The general contract for the construction of a $30,000 city hall and jail for Lyons, Kansas, was awarded this week to Bond Funk, of Lyons, Kansas, on a bid of $24,813.13. This was the second opening of bids on this job. The first figures ran higher than the funds appropriated so the citizens voted $10,000 more than the original" bonds in order to build the structure as designed by Architect Chas.

D. Cuth-bert of Topeka. The heating, plumbing' and wiring contracts are yet to be awarded. Plans for the latter will be completed by Mr. Cuthbert in about two weeks.

The other bids submitted on the general contract were J. S. Morrison, Great Bend, Gurtler Topeka, $25,677.75 and Vanden-burg Pauley, Wichita, $26,965. The building is to be two stories high, 60x140, of brick, hollow tile, cut stone and concrete construction. An auditorium and a jail with full equipment are included in the plans.

Shaul at Seneca. LEAVENWORTH SYNAGOGUE NOT LET. Geo. P. Washburn Son, architects, of Ottawa, Kansas, have completed plans and specifications for a fireproof high school building for that city and the clerk of the board "will take figures until October 11th for this structure.

Contractors desiring ifians may obtain same by depositing with the architects a certified check for $15.00 which will be returned when the contractor files a bid on the work and returns plans. In case the contractor fails to file a bid on the work $5.00 will be refunded upon return of plans. Each bid to be accompanied by a certified check for three per cent of the bid made payable to the Treasurer of the Board of Education and to' be forfeited if the contractor fails to enter into contract and furnish a satisfactory surety bond for the full amount of the contract and as required by the Kansas law within ten days after the award of contract. The building to be completed on or before Aug. 25th, 1917, and the contractor shall forfeit the sum of $25.00 per day for each day in excess of this time.

Bids on heating, plumbing and electric wiring will be received separately at the same time and as per above conditions the Board reserves the right to reject any or all proposals submitted. By order of the Board of Education. Signed H. W. Chaffee, Clerk.

Ottawa, Kansas, Sept. 5, 1916. Bids for $25,000 Structure In But Not Opened With Architects The city commissioners at Seneca, Kansas, will take bids until Tuesday, September 2'6, for the construction of a city hall estimated to cost $30,000. Plans for this structure were prepared by Geo. A.

Shaul of Seneca, architect and contractor, and can be secured from either Mr. Shaul or John T. Campbell, city clerk. The building will be two stories and basement in height, of Press brick, -reinforced concrete, hollow tile, cut stone, reinforced concrete floors, steam heat, plumbing and wiring and will be finished in pine and oak. A public hall is included in the plans.

M. E. Brady, contractor, of Beliot, Kansas, was the successful bidder on the construction of a new school building for Smith Center, Kansas, Monday, and a contract vas awarded to him at about $35,702, his original bid. Brady (successful), $35,702. The heating, plumbing and wiring plans will be completed about October 1 by the architects Thos. W. Williamson Co. of Topeka.

This building will be two stories and basement, 78x120, of brick, stone and concrete construction. Vapor vacuum steam heat will be used. P. A. Moyer is clerk of the board of education.

Work will be started soon. Bids for the construction of a synagogue for the Bnai Jeshurun congregation at Leavenworth, Kansas, were closed on August 26th but to date no contract has been awarded for the work because Mr. Seth Etten-son, chairman of the building committee, has been in the East. He has just returned, however, and it is probable that a- contract will be awarded in the very near future. Greenbaum Ilardy, Kansas City, are the architects.

The building, is to be of brick, stone and concrete construction with a composition roof and will be equipped for steam heat. ARKANSAS CITY HALL PLANS NOT COMPLETED. City Commissioners Will Soon Take Figures On Revised Plans. GARDEN CITY SEWER BIDS SEPTEMBER 28. In the near future the city commissioners of Arkansas City will again take figures on the construction of a $60,000 city hall for that city.

Bids for this structure when opened first, about two weeks ago were found to be too high for the funds appropriated and the architect Wm. T. Schmitt, of Oklahoma City, is revising the original plans. The exact date for the receiving and the opening of bids for this work will appear in an early issue of this paper. M.

HEATING, PLUMBING AND WIRING PLANS. September 19th Set As Date for Determining Project. will be opened September 28th for a sewer system for Garden City, Kansas, which will cost about $42,800 and wrill be 48,055 feet in length. Pipes of 8 inch and 18 inch diameter will be laid. A.

H. Burtis is mayor of the city and I. F. Crocker is city clerk. Plans for the -work can be secured from either the city clerk or the engineers, the Ruckel Engineering of Hutchinson.

Architects Thos. W. Williamson of Topeka, expect to complete plans and specifications for the heating, i plumbing and wiring of the Yinland $10,000 school building and the Osawkie $25,000 school building the first of next week after which bids will be received by them. On September 19, one week from next Tuesday, the citizens of Leavenworth will vote on a proposition of issuing $150,000 in bonds for the construction of a new city hall. Fred Mitchan is city clery.
