Lehrich Construction Co. of Kansas City to Build Wichita Structure. Contractors Everywhere Should Fight for Square Deal One Bid Three Days Late. It is said tllat a lot of Nebraska contractors are indignant over tlie manner in which the building committee of the Fremont Nebraska Hotel Co. is attempting to award a contract for a $175,000 hotel in that city.

And from the outside it does look mighty bad. It is said that a bid from the Sheldon-Breclc Construction Co. of St. Louis' was accepted three days after all the other bids had been received, opened and published, and that this company had received a set of the plans and specifications before any of the other bidders had received them. This, of itself, was grossly unfair to the other bidders.

When the bids were opened it was found that the J. C. Mardis Company was low and it was generally conceded that they would be awarded -the contract. The hotel company, however, states now that they will re-advertise for bids and it is expected that the Sheldon-Breck company will be asked to refigure. When will the architects, the.

owners and the public in general wake up to this grossly unjust practice of receiving late bids and of exposing all the bids submitted when the building committee decides to reject these bids' FIVE LARGE PLANTS. Sanitary Engineers Plumbing, Heating, Lighting Designers Phone 465 i i A contract has been awarned to the Lehrich Construction Co. of Kansas City, for the construction of a million bushel elevator at Wichita, which will cost when completed about $300,000. The contract calls for and the purchase price of the site 'was $25,000. Workmen have started to construct a trackage system for the elevator. Four railroads are sharing the expense of $25,000 to lay the tracks.

Money for this immensp structure was raised by selling stock to big grain men in all parts of the South-heat. The new building will be the zenith of modern, fireproof mill construction and not a piece of wood will be used. Instead it will be entirely of concrete and steel construction. Thirty-two motors will be installed to drive the machinery. Nine huge concrete tanks or bins with a capacity of 35,000 bushels each will be used to store the wheat.

Each bin will be more than eighty feet high. In the front part of the elevator proper will be the machinery used to wash, clean, sort and mix the wheat as it is unloaded. All the machinery will be of steel. Contractors say the building will be completed by the first of February. It has been stipulated that unless the building were ready for use by February, the contracting company would forfeit a large bond.

And when it is completed it will be paid for, according to Henry Lassem, president of the company. contractors helpless? Is there no way to force the committee to accept the low bid or to keep the bids secret in case it is necessary to refigure? Wont the contractors have to organize to defend themselves?
