There was an interesting address on the labor question by a gentlemen from the city The militia got orders Wednesday evening to be ready to go at any time to fight the Indians, and the timid onee are much worried ubout their tcapls.

One of the boye is going to buy a wigg to fool the Indian that tries to soalp him The Methodist Sunday school scholars and and all the teachers remained last Sunday to praoiioe songs for Christmas and discuss what kind of Christmas tree they should have. Mr. Sidwell, the superintendent, favored a Christmas castle, bnt the idea did not seem to take. There was quite au exciting time at the Oakland school, Wednesday afternoon. Mr.

Feibins, the professor was sent for in one of the lower grades, in returning he found the door locked and he asked the scholars to open the door, they would not open it, so he took the key and locked the door so the scholars oould not get out and he conld not get in, he told them that they would have to remain there until nine oolook to recite their spelling lesson. The scholars were exoited and all began to sing John Browns Body, etc. The boys thought of every way to getVrat while the teacher was at the door, Willie Williams and two other boye olimbed up the bell rope and went through the loft and dropped down in the hall all right. Frank Bria-dle jumpted out of the second story win dow. Tee boys oalled the girls the north window and asked them they would come down if they brought a ladder and thev said they would, Boy Williams, Ellsworth Knight, Char lie Haslet and Arthur Peters went to the army hall and got a ladder and put up in abont five minutes and told them to come down, five boys came down the ladder, some one told the teacher the ladder was up, but they hid it before he got around, eo the girla did not get down after all.

There were all having a lively time and ringing the eohool bell every once in awhile. The girls were thinking they would have to etay till nine oclock, but the teacher let them out at half past five, then the excitement was all over and tbe scholars went home and the orowd dispersed.
