10 THE WESTERN BARBER. HIS NEW BROTHER. by carrying his Sunday closing fight to the Supreme Court. It is claimed that those in favor of Sunday closing would not join the association while Mr. Petit remained a member.

By Joe Lincoln. Barbers Union No. 31 of St. Paul entertained No. fil of Minneapolis on April 24th.

The entertainment consisted of songs, recitations and speeches. Refreshments were served. The Minnesota State Federation of Labor meets in Duluth June 12th and 13th. The barbers unions of St. Paul, Minneapolis, Brainerd, Winona and Duluth will be represented by delegates.

Daniel Hetzker of Winona, one of the best known barbers in Minnesota, died last month. He was a member of the firm of Hetzker Bros. Hes so small, its just amazin, And youd think that he was blazin, Hes so red; And his nose is like a berry, And hes bald as Uncle Jerry On his head. Why, he isnt worth a dollar! All he does is cry and holler More and more; Wont sit up, you cant arrange him I dont see why pa dont change him At the store.

There are still several non-union barber shops in Marion, Ind. Barbers Union No. 102 of St. Louis is growing rapidly, both in membership and influence. Eighteen new members were initiated in the past month.

Movements are on foot for the organization of the barbers at Canton, 111, and it is thought the union will be in full operation within the coming week. Canton has been known as the greatest non-union town in the country, but the union people are making good headway and several unions will be organized there before many weeks. It is estimated that there are 000,000 barbers in the United States, and the better informed members of the profession have started a healthy movement to elevate and dignify it by securing legislation that will correct some of the evils of which they are now complaining and restore it to the honorable distinction which barbers enjoyed in the old days when they took rank with physicians and musicians and artists. This was before barbers colleges were heard of and young men had to learn the trade before they were allowed to practice it. The Labor Bulletin.
