Editor cf the Plaindealer Who Warned the People About the Knights and Ladies of Protection. Gets His Warning From Twelve Jurors. Nick Chiles, Editor of the Topeka Plain-dealer, was convicted of criminal libel against the Knights and Ladies of Protection, in the district court of Wyandotte county, this week. The Knights and Ladies of Protection is a colored insurance company with headquarters in Topeka, clothed with proper authority to do business the state of Kan- cl Hon. Jas.

The organization was doing a splendid business; but it did not get permission of Nick Chiles to exist nor would it allow him to prey upon its general funds. This added to the fact that he had no love for the president of the company offered him an opportunity to do what he could against the success of the company. He sounded a note of warning; and he sounded it long and loud. He told the people to beware of the Knights and Ladies of Protection. He said it was robbing the people; and that it was a skin game concern duping the people out of their hard earned money. Well, a good many people who do not know Mr. Chiles believed what they saw in the Plaindealer.

The company instigated criminal libel proceedings in the district court of Wyandotte county. The ease was tried last April a year ago and resulted in a mistrial. This did help matters very much. The people said: Well, well wait and see what you are going to do with Nick Chiles. The case was again tried this week.

It was a hard fought battle lasting three days. The jury in a little while made up the verdict; they read it in court. They said Nick Chiles was guilty of criminal libel. Now that the company has been vindicated in its work and exhonerated from the charges of corruption, by Nick Chiles, let the good work go on. Come in and help carry on this great work.
