Keared on his farm, in conjuction with the standard bred hogs, horses and cattle, and by utilizing the spare moments when not in the field of grain and by practically using the feed by-products of the farm in maturing them to full grown fowls, he at once set about to make his thoughts a fact and went at it on a business like, basis. After trying out several different varieties of standard bred poultry, he finally settled down to the Black Lang-shan, having found them the most suitable to his ideas and to the environments of his farm, and, as he says, The best year-around layer and bet all-around payer. lie regardless of cost, the very best birds for his foundation stock that money could buy.

From the very beginning, the business side of his standard bred poultry venture has been given as much careful thought, consideration and care as he has given to raising the fowls, mating and improving them. We had heard, previous to our visit to this farm, that Mr. Ifoagland was rearing, annually, bver a thousand Black Langshans to maturity. This was hard for us to understand and realize. After having visited his farm for a day and seeing the business-like methods which he employs, we could readily see how it was possible for him to build up in 10 years a steady and regular yearly trade for enough Black Langshans to make it-possible for him to rear and dispose of, at profit-making prices, over a thousand head.
