Somebody's child is dying dying with the flash of hope on his young face and an Indescribable yearning to live and take an honored place In the world beside the companions of his youth. And somebody's mother is thinking of the time when that dear face will be hidden where no ray of hope can brighten it when her heart and home will be left desolate because there was no cure for consumption. Reader, if the child be your neighbor's, take this comforting word to the mother's heart before it is too late. Tell her that consumption is curable, that men are living to-day, aged, robust men, whom the physicians pronounced incurable at the age of twenty-five, because one lung had been almost destroyed by the disease.

We refer to the old frame structure on Delaware, between Main and Second streets, It was one of the early buildings erected in the infancy of our city, about 1862. It was used as a restaurant by one Carlo Carll, who did a good businest there, the place being resorted 10 mostly by military officers' from the Fort, attracted no doubt by the good looks of a woman who purported to be the wife of Carli, but who in reality was the "grass widow" of a former resident of Leavenworth, a Spanish or Cuban cigar dealer. So at least "runs the legend." Afterward Carlo Carli disappeared from the city leaving his wife or mistress behind, who not feeling equal to the task of running herself alone the restaurant entered upon some arrangement or other with a friend of her husband, George Giacomini, who took unto himself the management of the restaurant, at the same time supplying the place of husband to the not too desolate grass widow. George made money there. Those were good old times, and many "noted heads" of Leavenworth society and from the Foit did congregate there discussing politics, war items, social scandals, and general gossip1, over a chop, a glass of wine, and a good cigar.

There, the present proprietor of the more pretentious "Delmonico" first held forth as an assistant to his cousin George, and there did Tom first acquire his stock of experience in the "caterer" business, which enabled him afterwards to start a restaurant of his own, which, after varied fortune, has now become one of the established institutions of the city, and made the name of the Delmonico a household word. Afterward the building was used for different purposes, and above all to jeopardize the, passengers, mostly immigrants, bound west rard. F. Leavenworth Kan Edwin Booth was invited to enact "Hamlet" at the formal opening of the new theatre at Stratford, April 23, the anniversary of Shakespeare's birth. Henry Irving and Barry Sullivati were also to appear in the same part on succeeding evenings, thus presenting the three greatest "Hamlets" on the English speaking stage. Flattering as the invitation is to the American tragedian, he was compelled to decline it, and other arrangements have since been made.
