lVff CHRISTIAN: WELLIUOT01 wrong man, some preacher of the Christian church an innovator, instead of some faithful preacher KANSAS. But this is not all. This author says the kings of the oarth bad committed fornication with the church, ref erring, we presume, to the apostate church, or church of Rome. Then he says, "all affiliatien on the part of the church or members of the church with human governments are characterized as fornication or adultery." Thus this author uses the expression "the church in refer once to Rome, and then uses the same expression in reference to tho church of Christ. Thus the fact that human governments represented by kings had become allied to the apostate church this author mentions as fornication, and then at once ar-jrues that for Christians to ally themselves to human governments is fornication.

Thus it was fornication for England to affiliate with Rome, and it is fornication for Christians in England to affiliate with the English government! What reasoning! Finally, we meet with a square denial the statement that "all affiliations on tho part of the church or members of the church with human govern ments are characterized as fornication or adultery." Of course, Elder David Lipscomb thus characterizes such affiliation, but the Bible does not. Paul affiliated with a human government by appealing to it for protection when his Jewish brethren were disposed to put him to death. So here we pause and enumerate three more mistakes which swell the list to one hundred and ninety-three. LirscoMB. All affiliation of the government ef God, or of the subjects of that government with human government, or the subjects, was declared by God, from tho beginning be adultery.

(Page 102.) Comment. This is strictly untrue. On the contrary both Abraham and Isaac made covenants with Abimelich, as we have several times shown. See Gen. Then the case of Jo seph in Egypt, Daniel and Mordecai in Assyria, e.

BROWN. In tho Primitive Ciikstian of February 15, Bro. B. B. Brown has a lengthy article, all of which I do not think speaks "as tho oracles of God peak." His heading is, "Spirit, Water and Blood." Speaking of the "first wituess," the spirit, he says: "There is no way to receive His spirit but to read." Tho inspired word informs us that three thousand were promised the gift of tho Holy Spirit upon their obedience.

Acts 2:38. Yot Brc. Brown says Christ "knows they must be baptized into him aftor they have rcoeived the spirit." Again he says, "Aftor wo receive his spirit ard are baptized in his name, wo receive the power of his blood the remission of sins up to tho date of baptism." According to this statement, the world sinners receive the spirit; for it is before they have been delivered from tho power of darkness (the state of sin) and translated into the kingdom of his dear Son. Col. 1:13.

And moreover tho Savior told his apostles that tho world (sinners) cannot receive the spirit. Jno. 14:16. 17. Again the apostle says: "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." Gal.

also Rom. 6:3, 4. And the Savior told the apostle that "He that believeth and is baptized shall bo saved." Matt. 16:16. Now I will ask our brother a few questions; I would like to ask several; but if he reads and reflects on these ho will likely see bis mistakes in ether statements he has made in his lengthy let ter; one in particular, which 1 shall not quete, i.e.

giving his analysis of water as if that has anything to do with enlightening tho sinner or saint in things pertaining to sal ration. 1. I will ask, is the sin nor a member of the body (church of Christ) before he obeys tho gospel in baptism. If yes, how will you reconcile your answer with Gal. Col.

2:17 and Rom. 9:3:42. If so, are they still in the power of darkness a state of sin unpardoned? or are they in the kingdom church of God's dear son? 2.1f the penitent believer receives tho spirit before baptism does he not recoivo him tho spirit while he is still in the power of darkness? Then hew will you reconcile your position, that the Spirit is received prior to baptism, with Johu 14:16, 17, and Acts. 3. If the Spirit is received before the remission of sins, as fou state, would not that bo the world receiving the Spirit, thus contradicting tho words of the Son of God himself.

4. What would be the result, my brother, if, as you say, the Spirit is received by a person before baptism, and ho should thou refuse to be baptized? 5. What is this receiving of the spirit which you speak of? I trust you may see your errors and reform from them. Such positions is the language of sectarians lut not of the Holy Spirit. N.

Yakima, Wash. W.W.Stone DANGER SIGNAL. Is it safe to call innovators to preach for our loyal congregations? Wo would answer with a positive No. Would it be safe to call a sectarian preacher to preach for a loyal church? Every sensible and faithful Christian will answer No. But of the two innovationist a proacher of the Christian church or an avowed sectarian the latter is bv far the safer; for verv few will be de-ceived by the one who preaches unmixed, sectarianism; but mapy espooially the young, or any who have not the doctrine or any who have not the gospel of Christ deeply grounded in their minds, arovery liable to be deceived and led into unscriptural practices, by the society "pastor." Many congregations of Christians have been split asunder and ruined by their elders calling the and the case of Solomon and Hiram theso have all been set forth time and again as evidences that ur author is reckless in some of his assertions.

See Gen. Esther Dan. So hero we record mistake an hundred and ninety-four Octoyrapldc Review. DUNN -BARTON DEBATE. Dear Bro.

Stone: I have just been attending a debate between James Dunn of the Christian church and R. F. Barton of the Advent church. Barton affirmed that Christians should keep the Sabbath. His main proof was drawn from Ex.

of too charob of Christ. But instead of the elders feeding tho flock, taking the oversight thereof, as they are commanded in I. Peter 5:2, they sometimes call, or allow to be called, some society "evangelist" or "pastor" to hold them a meeting, as the church cf Plattevillo, Colorado, has done; or perhaps hiring him to pastorate for them for six months or a year, which is usually long enough to ruin any congregation of Christians. Tho report of "pastor" F. J.

Harris, of Long-mont, holding a meeting for the Plattsville congregation, as reported by Bro. Thoa. M. Pop-plewell, is a case in hand of this kind. As this Meeting was reported by a Popplewell, and published in Primitive Christian, is the reason why we suppose that congregation to be sound in faith and practice.

One thing we are aware of, and that is the church at Longmont is a "Christian church" (not a church of Christ) and F. J. Harris is or was a few weeks ago, the salaried "pastor" (a sectarian creation) of said "Christian church." These "pastors" are almost without an exception, advocates of all kinds of humanism that havo been introduced into the church, instrumental music, human soeieties, pastor Sunday-schools, festivals and fairs, all of which are foreign to the Word of God. What are tho words of the Spirit in regard to such meu? "If there come any unto you and bring not this doctrine, e. that preached and practiced by the primitive churches roceive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed; for he that biddeth ina God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

II. John 10,11, Where strife and division and offonce and stumbling are caused by some one or more innovation-ists preachers coming unto a congregation of Christians, who will be held accountable to tho all righteous Judge for this trouble? Mainly the elders for receiving such devisive workers-into their house; and secondly, these preachers themselves will be made to wail and gnash their teath. Ye elders of the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has mado you overseers, are you vigilant in guarding the flock which grievous wolves in sheep's clothing will enter into, not sparing the flock? Turn and read the 20th of Acts, and then consider what an awful responsibility rests upon you. The souls that are lost on account of you failing to do your duty, you will have to account at tho judgment bar. You may plead ignoranco, but that will be no excuse with un open Bible before you.

The New Testament will be the.book out of which you will be judged, by which you will be justified or condemned. Then, brethren, you who are elders of the churches, turn to the 20th chapter of Acts, 1st chapter of Titus and 5th chapter of I. Peter and therein learn your duty, and do it; resign! your positions and give place for better men. W. W.

Stone. REVIEW OF DAVID LIPSCOMB'S BOOK ON CIVIL GOVERNMENT. ARTICLE XV. BY DANIEL SOMMER. Lipscomb.

Babylon typifies the human governments of earth. Tho kings of the earth had committed fornication with the church. Ail affiliation on the part of the church or members of the church, with human governments are characterized as fornication or adultery. (Page 100.) Comment. Here are not fewer than three mistakes.

The name Babylon in Rev. 16: 19; 17:5, 18; 18:2, 10, is applied to the seven-hilled city Rome. That city is spoken of as a woman who is a whore. Thus Babylon in Ravelation does not typify tho human governments of earth, but is the great religious apostasy which is called the "mystery of iniquity," and the niother of harlots and abominations of the Are the human governments of earth the harlots and abominations of the earth? Certainly not, but this author would have us believe that "all human governments sprang in some sense, from Babylon" over in Assyria, and would now have us believe that Babylon in Italy "typifies the human governments of earth." What confusion! That ancient Babylon in Assyria typified the Babylon in Italy might be admitted if we consider the great power and dominion of each. But modern Babylon is a spiritual concern and does not typify tho human governments of earth.

i 1 This he assured to be the fourth commandment that was written on the tables of which were not abolished. Ihe law as written in the book having been abolished, nailed to the cross and taken 'out of the way was not binding on Christians. As I was reading the 20th chapter of Exodus I dated the commands in the first paragraph and counted thirteen. Then a question arose in my mind: How do the Advents knaw that these are the ten commandments that were written on stone. After investigating tho scriptures on the subject I was satisfied that it was all an assumption and therefore nothing but a sandy foundation.

Now, it is a well known fact thai the Advents hang up the first paragraph of Exod. 20, and divide the paragraph into ton commands and say these are the ten written on stone. 1 said to Bro. Dunn, You challenge Barton to prove tho assertion and you will stall him. Sure enough it did.

He was completely astonished that anyone should ask such a question as how he knew these to be tho ten commandments written on stone, and said he would pay no attention to such questions; and said, How do I know tho sun rises and sets. This was no answer, but only an admission that he could not answer the question, unless they can get the desired information from Sister White. 1 think they will have to revise their entire theology.
