Lee. It is reported that L. D. Himebaugh is sou struck, but he will probably recover. The threshers are through work at Mr.

Osborn's place. The yield was 37,715 bushels. The engine broke down this side of El Dorado, Saturday and delayed the train until 1 o'clock. Beautiful plush albums, birth day cards, fancy box paper, unique visiting cards; all in full bloom at the book store. Fred Wise has returned from Kansas -City, and reports the condition of his eyes much improved with hope of recovery.

What is the matter with our democra tic candidates, are they "skeered." We haven't caught sight of one since the convention. McCray has moved his paper from Excelsior Springs to Cameron, and will afflict the people there. They have our sympathy. R. A.

Cameron, the agent of the Kan(sas Mutual Life. Association is in town interviewing our citizens on the importance of life insurance. A. Leland and Geo. Gardner were down looking after the Knapp case.

Knapp was fined $5 which he paid and was discharged, Lost, a greenish checkered overcoat, in Douglass or between Douglass and Rock postoffice. Finder will be rewarded by leaving at this office. Notice: All persons knowing themselves indebted to the firm of Filson Hamilton, please call and settle immediately. FILSON HAMILTON. Mr.

W. Jones. lately from Illinois, has purchased the business of Mr. Hale. Mr.

Jones is a young man of energy and we welcome him here. It fairly made our head ache to read last week's paper, bat on reading the Advance we made up our mind that that paper was minus an editor also. Cap. Lee has sold his residence and moved on his farm east of town, at least he was there at last accounts. We are never quite sure where Cap.

does live. New goods arriving at Elliott's. Velvet frames, smokers sets, fancy ink bottles, concert harps, bibles; anything and everything in the book store line. Notice to bargain hunters; after you have looked around town and taken in the cost prices, please call upon me and see what I can do for you. R.

H. SNELL. J. H. Johnson has received a dried beef chopper and will now furnish you dried beef sliced as thin as paper.

A slice of dried beef is one of the few things that is all the better for being thin. Remember you can get buggy whips cheaper at F. B. Hamlin's harness shop than any other place in Butler county. He will sell whips so cheap that it dont pay to drive with a sunflower weed.

If you don't believe it go an and see. TO ED. INDEX: -Please notice: that a meeting will be held of the tarmers of Butler county, at Augusta on the 13th of October, to organize a Farmers' Club. Come one, come all, by request of many. It takes from Thursday afternoon till Saturday morning to go by train, with the exception of ten miles, from El Dorado to Anthony in Harper county.

We could go to New York in that time. Mrs. Smith, whose serious sickness we reported last week, died Friday and was buried Saturday. She was an estimable lady, and leaves a large family and many friends to mourn her loss. The Marion Record comes to us this Week as a double number-72 columns, illustrated with maps, cuts, etc, showing the prosperity of the town.

This is a card for the Record and ought to be appreciated by the people of Marion. Our tragile friend, L. E. Wright, of Douglass, was one of the "sights" on the grounds yesterday and later he made us happy by a brief visit at the sanctum. Wright says the Republican ticket is and will be all right Dougla-8.

He knows too. -Times. Fish Commissioner Gile was down this way last week and dumped 20,000 young pike, two kinds of bass, cat fish, in the West Branch just north of town. He gives notice that the owners of mill dams must put in practical fish ways this fall without -Press. Dr.

Jackson's Indian Eye Salve is a certain, safe and efficacious remedy for Inflamed, Weak or Granulated Sore Eyes. Cooling and soothing in its effects. It arouses the secretions, opens the tear ducts, strengthens and restores the tailing eye sight, Sold by Blackburn Wilson.8 6mo. Sheep men from every part of the county are respeetfully requested to meet in Augusta on Saturday, Octtober 13, 1883, at which time a sheep association will organized tor protection of sheep herds and interests of sheep raising. Let everyone interested in this branch of stock raising be present.

JNO. RODGERS. President pro tem. -Died Sept. 26, 1883, Mre.

Rachel Linton, aged 63 years and 19 days. Less than a year ago she came to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Amos Stewart. Her illness was short. She had been a member of the U.

B. church from childhood. Her funeral was attended by a large number of sympathizing friends. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. C.

W. YARD. The latest rumor about T. B. Murdock coming back to El Dorodo 18 that Shelden has made him a proposition to take $7,200 for the Times office, post office, lock stock an barrel, and it is thought thet Mr.

Murdock will accept the proposition. The fine Italian hand of Hon. P. B. Plumb can easily be detected in this little transaction.

He is evidently getting concerning the politics of. Butler -Democrat. A large number of our citizens attended the fair last week. We think the display no better than last year though the attendance at the grounds greater. The apples were very fine but the variety of fruits and vegetables was not what we expected.

The business men of El Dorado took an interest 10 the Exposition and many of them were represented. The total receipts at the gate, on Thursday were $1,078.09, and fully 6,000 people were preent; on Friday the total recipts were $907,49. Why not have a teleplioue to connect El Dorado with Douglass, Leon and Augusta? The line would not be very expensive and would pay a very handsome dividend from the start. All over the state telephone connections are being made by the smaller towns with the county seat and in every case the wonder has been how they ever got along without it. Will our Augusta, Douglass and Leon friends go in with El Dorado and build the line? -Times.

A letter from the United States to Canada will go fot two cents, but one 10 return will cost three cents; I interest: We knew El Dorado was a big town, had lots of big men (1) and houses, and 1 a b-i-g paper, the Times, and supposed her stores compared tavorably with the rest of the town, but we inquired for several articles which were not to be found, while many of those in stock were higher priced than in Douglass. We invite the people of El Dorado down to do their trading; our merchants will be glad to see you and will take pleasure in showing a choice stock et goods at the lowest prices, THESE ARE SOLID FACTS. The best blood purifier and system regulator ever placed within the reach of suffering humanity, truly is Electric Bitters. Sold at fifty cents a bottle by Filson, Hamilton. A sad occurrence happened last Tuesday evening to the family of Daniel Smeltzer east of town, His son Hart ly a bright boy, thirteen years of age, complained of chills, and his mother went to the clock and took out a package of medicine and seeing the last part of the word was pine, supposed it was quinine, laid it on the table, and requested the boy to take a dose. In about balf an hour the boy complained of a peculiar sensation and twitching of the muscles. The father came in and inquired where the mother got the med icine, and on being told in the clock, replied God, that is not quinine it is strychnine." They seat immediately for the doctor but before he arrived the boy was dead. The following resolutions are pub lished at the request of the students of Hahnemann College, Chicago: Whereas, The great Ruler of the Uni verse has in his infinite wisdom removed from us our worthy and highly teemed fellow student Myron H.

T'hom as, and whereas he was one of the most promising students of the college and won for himself the esteem and friendship of all who made his acquaintance; Resolved, that we deeply sympathize with the afflicted relatives and friends, more especially his bereaved wife, and express our hope that this great loss may be over-ruled for the highest good, Adopted by a unanimons vote. J. A. KIRKPATRICK, Sec. A curious accident recently occurred to a lady living here in town.

She went into the country to spend the night with a friend and on arising in the morning one of her stockings was missing. She searched the room for it but it could not be found and shie was obliged to borrow a pair to wear home. The room occupted by the lady was. covered overhead with a few loose boards laid across the beams. Several weeks after, a loud noise was heard in the room and it was found that a wood rat had made a nest up on the boards and a snake Mad crawled in and up to the nest, and the two were having a battle which ended by their falling through the boards onto the floor below and the missing stocking with them, It is needless to say that the room was at once ceiled.
