The first recital of the summer session, which was given in Fraser Hall, Wednesday, was very pleasing and enjoyed by all present. The program was, of necessity, made shorter than had been planned because Miss Blanche Potts, violinist, was called out of town Wednesday afternoon.

The first number of the program, "Cuckoo and Nightingale," by Handel, by Professor Skilton, had a very "naive" imitation of bird song, in the second movement. This is one of the few examples of music literature written for the organ. Miss Clara Scheurer, contralto, sang three songs composed by Miss Mary Preyer, which revealed her great genius as a composer. Miss Scheurer was accompanied by Miss Anna Sweeney. Miss Mary Preyer then played the "Prelude in C.

Minor," composed by her father, Professor Carl F. Preyer. In Professor Skilton's next selection he played two of his own compositions, "Alia Palestrins' which, he said, "wa8 an attempt to imitate the old anaccompanied style of music," and "Alia Minuetto," which was written in a more modern style. The last number on the program was a group of three songs, "I came with a Song," "The in the Corn," and "Christ in Zanders" sung by Miss Scheurer.
