We witnessed an interesting trial at Wichita the other day, wherein three parties swore positively to the identity of a person, while what was supposed to bo his mother and sister swore positively that he was no relation, and not the person claimed by the opposite parties. Quite a number of real estate transfers this week. Extensive repairs are being made on the Tunnel Mills. Don't forget the Centennial Supper to-night, at the Court House. The marriage notice in this issue came into too late for last weeks paper. Everybody seems to be satisfied that the wheat crop will be magnificent.

The town was full last Saturday, and our auctioneers made it lively as usual. A select party of young folks enjoyed a social hop at McMasters Saturday night. Dr. Black is building a residence in the south part of town, near the Christian Church. See new card of Gragg Searl, butchers.

Accommodating, pleasant gentlemen both. Tisdale and Terrel, proprietors of the Southwestern Stage Liine, were in town one day this week. If you want to sec whether blue grass will grow in Cowley county, go and see McMillan's door yard. See Mr. Bartlett's grain card.

Mr. Bartlelt is one of our citizens, a fair dealer, and we bespeak patronage from our county. Mr. Wilkinson was taken to Wichita on Monday morning last to answer to some charge of a former partner about disputed ponies. The Bantam the leader of the str: ig its, having returned from Topeua, has called his committee together.

Look out for warm work If you want good cheap fare, if you want to be handy to the depot, if you want pleasant, accommodating land lords, go to the liichey House, Wichita-. Emigration is getting lively, hotels are crowded every night every State represented, and this is only the vanguard, let them come. There is room in city and country for a million, and bread and meat too. Our former foreman, Mr. Whittlesey, is foreman on the Free Press at San Marcos, Texas, whose editor pays him a handsome compliment which we can truly endorse as truth, and give Mr.

Whittlesev our best wishes for his future success. Stock men will take notice of the card of Shough, Reynolds Cusey, who have opened up a stock yard at Kansas City. Mr. Cusey was the JJeform candidate for Governor, and Ueyuolds is well known to many of our citizens, as he appeared at one of our county lairs with some fine stock. They are all reliable gentlemen.

Mr. Wilkinsons case seemed to be a difference between himself and partner as to the ownership of a team. Mr. AVilkinson claimed them as firm property, and the partner claimed them as his. own.

Mr. Wilkinson out of town with the team, the partner followed with a warrant. Mx. Wilkinson returned, replevied the property and came home. We suppose the law will have to decide the case.

We were informed by Mr. Reynolds, formerly of Howard count', and now doing business in a stock yard at Kansas City, that Mr. E. J. Sweet, of Liongton, Howard county, has two thorough bred bulls four and five years old, that can be bought very cheap.

Mr. Reynolds owned them when calves, and says they are first-class stock Mr. Sweet has no further use for them. Stock dealers will take notice. We hope our city will not be disgraced alter the manner of Tuesday night in a long time to come.

The parents who have any control over their boys should try to convince them of the disgrace which attaches to such conduct, and as to the young men who have charge of themselves, we leave them to the public. The Sheriff deserves thanks for the prompt manner in which ho did his duty in this matter. Jim Ilill has imported two Bantam chickens. Jim says the rooster is all right for pluck, but like another Bantam we know of, has too much load to carry when the big ones get READ THIS. Mr.

J. II. Land has returned from a visit to Indiana, bringing with him a son of his brother who is a prominent lawyer in Indiana. Mr. Land says they would gladly seek our new west, but times are hard and property low, and many of them will have to wait.

Mr. Land reports a fearful storm or hurricane in Indiana which uprooted trees and almost demolished some of the towns. In one town twenty houses were blown down, and strange to say no person injured. Xenia, Illinois, March 6th, 1876, Gents: Please announce the death of William Brorufield, died in Xenia at the residence his sons on March 4th, 1876, aged 74 years 10 months. A good pious old man.

One Murray, an Irishman, living in Independence, got married a few days ago went witk his wife to Atchison, lo get an outfit for housekeeping bought furniture, dishware, one keg of beer, and two or three gallons of whiskey. Both got drunk and started in the wagon for home. Murray upset his better halt and all his load in the road, and went on, leaving his wife and all She came on after while, stopping at the fechoolbouse where there was church did not know where she was a couple of men offered their services to take her to the nearest house, She told the men she did not care so much for Murray as the keg of beer, and if they found it, one of the men could have it, and the other one could have her.
