The beautiful "Queen of the West" man so well known in this community, died at his humblo residence in Riverside on Sunday morning after a long and painful illness. When he was first taken sick his ailment was pronounced dropsy by his physicians, and his case was considered almost hopeless. Life lias to be awarded the palm as regards ON- THE her elegant location, situated as it on the banks of beautiful stream of crystal water. 151 Dorado certainly is the coziest and most home-like town in all Kansas, and whether it gets an was strong within the old man, however, and under skillful medical treatment he rallied sufficiently as to arouse strong hopes that ho might eventually recover. was no premonition that death was so near at hand until a short time before ho died. His heart simply gave out, ceased to beat, and the poor old man found peaceful rest. Col. Iverson, as ho was familiarly known, was nearly ninety years of age, and his history was almost as eventful as that of Uncle Tom. He had his faults, but let us bury them with him.

He possessed many good traits of character, and one in particular, one so rare in humanity that of absolute fidelity to his friends. In the death of this weary old black man, whose heart was tenderer, Kinder and truer than that of most white folks I have met, there Is something peculiarly, pathetic and sad, but I have not the time now to put my melancholy thoughts into words. All I can do is to add a letter, which was sent to me long ago to read to the old man; a letter written by one who had known Col. Iverson longer and more intimately than the writer. The letter was not written for publication, I know, but I do not think I violate any confidence in embodying it in the last words I write in memory of my old blaek friend.

Dear Iverson: I have just learned from our friend, Mr. Fulton, of your sickness, and of the possibility of your being soon called to join those who have gone before' you to the better world. I am sorry, indeed, to learn, of your affliction and suffering, and if I could I would gladly do something to restore you to health" and happiness, but this is beyond my power. A.11 I can do is to pray to our Heavenly Father to deal justly.lovingly andmer-cif ully with you, and this I heartily do. My dear Iverson, your road through this world has not been a smooth and flowery one.

The streets were thronged yesterday, almost everyone choosing to "bask in the bright sunlight of Heaven." The number of good stories told in crowds gathered round street corners in many different places in the city would fill a book. Appropriate to the occasion the weather was a subject frequently discussed, and reminiscences of "hot waves" at other localities were many and interesting.

The revival services at the Baptist church were largely attended last night. Much Interest Is being manifested in these meetings, and sinners are being brought to repentance.
