New York, Sept. SO. -The Erie railway company gives out the following statement concerning tho wreck near Kent, this morning: Tho third section of train No. 88, west bound freight train, collided between Kent and Ravenna, this morning with the sixth section of train No. 4, an east-bound passonger train with members of the Olin famfly en route to Bennington, Vt, killing the roud foreman of engines, W.

H. Maxwell, and the fireman of tho freight train and injuring thirteen passongors, oue of whon an elderly lady, has died. We are unable to give names of tho injured parties or further particulars of tho acoideut, on account of telegraph wires having been knocked down. As far as ascertained, the freight train had orders to wait on tho siding until the passenger trains had passed, and the freight crew apparently overlooked the last train, or miscounted the number and pul led out on the main track. uio representation lor tho Boudlogono anJ the Nord.

Here ho was returned by 59,5 Jtl votes to 35,750 polled by the opportunist candidate, in the Nord, his triumph was still more remarkable, the number of votes polled for him being 172,528 against 75.9J1 for M. Foucart, and 9,647 for M. Morea. This was on April 15, 1889. Ml Popularity Wane.

Subsequently his popularity waned for a time. The general's appearance In the chamber of deputies In July, 1SSS, to demand a dissolution of the chamber gave rise to a scene. M. Floquet made a vigorous attack upon tho general, and in Hie ullercation botweon thorn Gouoral Bou-langor exclaimed I "You will see This to demand satisfaction, aud on July 13 a duel was fought between them with the result that tl. leral received a deep wound in tho thru.f After his recovery ho appealed a candidate at both elections in Paris, at the Nord, tho Somma, and Charent Infernl and was returned by largo majorities.

The patriotic league of which ho was tho head, was subsequently suppressed and the general was tried on the charge of having, while minister, appropriated pouuds of public money for purposes of his own propaganda. Ho was found guilty. To avoid arrest, he lied, first to Belgium, then to London, where he arrived April 24. The general was electtd at the general election (September) for Monacra, by a small majority, over M. Jeffrin, but the election was annulled.

Tho general then retired to the island of Jersey and later removed to Brussels. Madame De Bonnemain, the general's mistress, upon whoso tomb he bequeathed his last, died in Brussels on July 16, 1891, after having accompanied General Bou-langcr in all his wanderings. She devoted an inherited fortune of $1,600,000 to the furtherance of the general's political fortunes. Tho romantic part of the career of General Bolanger is his political career. A3 his character Is now understood It is one of tho strangest things in history that such a man could have endangered the peace of a great nation.

His political life shows in a marked way what a womau's money can do when it is boldly used. His military career, even if not brilliant, was at least honorable. He had risen to high command in the army and as a minister of war he was one of the best the republic ever had. Brussels, Sept. 80.

General Boulunger to-day committed suicide on the tomb of Mine. Bonneinain, his late mistress, who recently died in this city. Boulunger stood alone by the grave of his mistress for somo time, appearing to be deeply affected by sorrowful recolleo-tions. An attendant, who had respectfully remained at some distance, suddenly heard a sharp report. Hastening to tho spot, he found Boulanger lying dead upon the American Association.

First prices wero in almost all coses from to Yi per cent, better than last night's figures. Further slight improvement was niado in the early trading, but a smart attack was again niado in the list und Missouri Pacific dropped quickly from 63 to at which flguro it hud opened, being one of tho exceptions to the rule. The rest of tho activo stocks lost large fractious, Erie and Atchison declining Northern Pacific and others smaller amounts. Hocking Valley was the strong point in the list, holding its early advance, while New England after a drop of "i failed to recover. A generally firm tone prevailed lato in the hour, but improvement was slow.

The movement of tho market did not im-provo the situation much us regards tho uncertainty strongly manifested in the last few days. Further receipts and shipments of gold from Europe were announced and in connection with reported light drains of money to the interior helped to quiet the talk of a money stringency, which has proved a poor weapon of the bears. The result of the Missouri Pacific directors' meeting was awaited with interest on the slight chance of something happening to modify the iffoet of Mr. Gould's utterances. The market maintained a firm front until the announcement after noon that the Union Pacific dividend would be passed when there was a weakening all over the list Missouri Pacific dropped in a very short time from 63 to The following are the closing prices: SEEKING A CONFESSION.

A Naturalized Chinaman Ignored by the A Scheme to Get Kx. Treasurer to Turn Stale's Evidence. New York, Sept 30. A special from Philadelphia says it was learned on good authority last night that in connection with the attempt of Governor Pattison to force the auditor general and state treasurer out of office a big scheme is on foot to get Bardsley to turn state's evidence and tell all he knows at the extra session of the senate, which has been called to try the two officials. The pardon board consists of two Republicans and two Democrats, and the Democrats think that If they can get Bardsley to unseal his lips they can commute at least a portiou of his sentence.
