Ar road were present. Propositions were agreed upon to he submitted to the people of Fawn Creek, Parker and Cherokee townships. The committe from Caney were unable to agree upon any proposition. of the committee wanted the road at Caney, part at Havana, and others favored a route between the two places. The matter is still under advisement.

We hope that a satisfactory conclusion may soon be arrived at. In Fawn Creek the railroad proposes to build a depot in the center of the township, or one on the east and another on the west side of the town ship, as they may think best. They ask for 22,000 bonds from this township? In Parker they ask for 26,000 in bonds, and the depot is to be located within three quarters of a mile from the square. In 'Cherokee they propose to give them a flag station and side track, and to plank the railroad bridge oyer the river east of Coffeyville, build the approaches, and give the right of way for four years for a wagon bridge. They ask $15,000 bppds from this township.

Vynen the bonds are voted through 3rontgomery and Chautauqua counties, the road will be assured, beyond a doubt, $7,000 a mile of the bonds are already sold and are to be delivered as the road is completed in ten miles sections, 325 miles of the road are under contract, of which 61 miles between Belle Plains and Kingman are to be McCKKAKY I EN ICV CON HAD Sheriff County Clerk Yes we'll roll tjie tide of prohibition K. Last Monday morning, between and 7 o'clock, a fire broke out in the block in the center of the square. The fire originated between McTaggart's flour and feed store and Henry Vermehron's meat, market, and. was without doubt the work of an incendiary.

The old buildings burned very rapidly and were soon reduced to ashes. The buildings and their contents were well insured, so the loss will fall chiefly on the insurance companies. One of the buildings was owned by Mrs. Martin, one by Mr. Spear, and the other four by Luther Perkins.

A large crowd of citizens soon gathered at the fire and everything possible was done to save the stocks of goods and furniture contained in the burned buildings. The Eldridge House seemed in danger of being burned for a short time, but by the efforts of those present it was saved. The paint was badly blistered John M. We have often observed that Coffevville and vicinity has been less troubled by this class of nuisance than most places, but this summer these depredations are becoming a common occurrence. The man who builds a good comfortable home for rumself, beautifies and ornaments his grounds with trees, shrubs, and flowers, is a public benefactor, and assists largely in the material growth and prosperity of the town. You may not be able to build a brick block, but you can brush up about your door, yard and clear away the rubbish from the back yard and alley. Let each one do what he can to add to the beauty and comfort of our town. Che-topa Advance.

Walter Currier, a painter, wrho was a former resident of Coffeyriile, but more recently of Independence, has been arrested for stealing a gold watch chain. It seems that about a year ago Currier was working for Mr. Getzendaner, and while there stole the chain from Mr. McDonald who lives at Mr. Getzen-daner's place.

He was suspected at the time, but was not arrested. Some time last fall he pawned the chain for $3 to John Glass, and failing to redeem it, it was brought to light. Mr. McDonald has fully identified his property and Currier is now in jail at Independence awaiting his trial at the next term of the district court. NOTICE.
