PAGE THREE THE COOPER COURIER Me Ml Monday, May 3, and Tuesday, May 4 UfesjU, APRIL $7, 1626 NEW WORLD MOVEMENT During the past few months the program of the, New World Movement has been presented in Cooper. First there were a few talks on Prayer air1 the students were asked to. enroll aC Comrades in Intercession. Then the college team composed of Miss Barnes Rev. Curry and Rev.

Munn spent a week with us in the interests of Life Enlistment. The past two weeks the topic of Stewardship in all its various phases has been clearly and forcibly presented by student "Minute Men." On Thursday Dr. J. W. Wal-dron of Great Bend spoke on the Inter church World Movement and the coming canvas.

Now we are in the last inning of the game the canvas is on! Cooper's allotment has been set by the Central Committee-of the New World Movement at $3,575 or an average of over $6 per year per student. The eight members of the canvas teams met Sabbath afternoon and started the drive by pledging $745 themselves. At chapel, Monday, the canvas plans were presented by members of the teams and the drive began. Cooper has always come up to the standards set and surely she will not fail now. It is a joy to feel that we have a part in this great forward movement of the churches and that we must not fail.

At four o'clock Monday twenty-five students had been canvassed and $1650 pledged. Let's go over the top, Cooper! We can if each one does his part. STUDENT VOLUNTEER The Student Volunteer Band holds its regular meetings every Sabbath at 5 p. These were open meetings and everyone is invited. i Topics of vital importance and live interest are -In this age when the church is calling for (trained workers and leaders, when the idea of the Stewardship of Life is being emphasized as never before, and when such a variety of fields are opening up for active Christian work we as Christians cannot afford to shut our eyes to the opportunities Of missionary work.

Keith Falconer said, to the students of Edinburgh, "while east continents are shrouded in almpst utter darkness, and hundreds of millions suffer the horrors of heathenism and of Islam, the burden of proof rests on you to show that the circumstances in which God has placed you were meant by God to help you out of the foreign field." Are you dodging the issue or are you willing to meet squarely Christ's claim on your life and the. great need of heathen lands? The Y. W. girls thoroly enjoyed the picnic given by the Y. M. last Friday, and wish to thank them for the jolly good time it afforded.

JUNIOR NOTES The Junior boys have a good representation in track, Norman Lupton, Andrew Gardner, Lee Gish, and Wm. Grove. Some of the Juniors went to see "Kentucky at Alden. They were Rose Bedford, Norman Lupton, Lee Gish. Norman Lupton and William Grove motored to Hutchinson to hear Mes-cha Elman, but decided to go to a picture show.

Norman Lupton, William Grove, and AndreW Gardner went to Alden to a track meet, Norman and William officiated. Ruth Bell has accepted a position as teacher in the Sterling grade schools. Marguerite McClellan likes to go swimming By Gosh's. Two of the Juniors have created some excitement lately. It is very evident.

Wilda Dobbins of our class spent the week end visiting Cooper friends. CHRESTO NOTES At the last meeting of the society it was decided that Cooper college should adopt the honor system, at least the affirmative side of the debate on that question won an unanimous decision. We were glad to have as visitors Monday night, Miss Kate Hill, of India, who was visiting her niece, Miss Lilla Scott, also Misses Mabel Mc-Knight and Marguerite Forby. The program for Monday night, April 26, was a country school program, consisting of recitations, dialogues and such as we all participated in years ago. SENIORS Elizabeth Work, Mrs.

Lewis Stubbs and Cloyd Caskey from the Senior class enjoyed the violin concert by Mischa Elman in Hutchinson Thursday night, April 22. A number of the Seniors, Harry Hanlcn, Ella Tippen, and Margaret Graham, saw the H. S. Senior play, "The Kentuc' Belle," at Alden, April 16. Margaret remained the rest of the week with her friend, Wilda Dobbin.

Have you observed the thoughtful; dignified manner of the Seniors these days? Each one is busy with his thesis or oration, whichever his choice, may have been. Ella Tippen, in fulfilling her thesis requirement for a modern language major, is doing something unique. She is translating articles by Benj. Bond from the French original into English. These articles constitute Economic History since 1763.

The translations will be printed, bound and preserved in the Cooper library for future reference work. Mrs. Stubbs, Cloyd Caskey and music interludes at the H. S. Senior Elizabeth Work assisted with the play Friday night, April 23.

Most of the Seniors were permitted to attend the Y. M. picnic at Gosh's, given Friday. The Senior girls wish to express their thanks to their hosts for the delightful time and the excellent dinner they enjoyed there. We are sure that there are some very capable cooks among the Cooper boys.

One of the mysteries of Cooper college has been solved thru the dorm. One of those much talked of diamonds has appeared and seems to have taken up its abode in the dorm. Speaking of diamonds they were the chief topic of conversation at one of the tables one day not long ago and Florence said, "Yes, it is getting serious with me." Kermit Burnett ate supper with the McBurney's Tuesday Grace Brooks, Evelyn Nesbit, Lucile Reed, Rose Lippoldt, Lilla Scott, Wilma Lukins, Vera Moffett and Wil-v a Blair were invited to Silver Lake last Thursday evening to an egg roast Boat rides, skipping stones and "eating" were chief amusements. The party voted Ike a first class cook. The Freshmen ladies report a fine time at Mae Connery's birthday party.

We are still hearing about their "eats." Lucile Lukins has almost lost her reputation as a chaperone. "She is not strict enough" is a sentence dropped by a young lady who was under Miss Lukins care for the evening. Kermitt Burnett and Isabelle Thomson were at the Henry home in the country for supper Friday evening. Widows are Wonderful The girl's lips quivered, and her breath came in labored gasps. But she did not speak.

"Do you love me?" pleaded the young man. "I I don't know," was the answer. "Darling, would you like me to ask your mother, first?" With a sudden cry of terror she grasped his arm. A. NOTES Nelle Lindsay, Sylvia Hutcheson, and Davida Stevenson, who attended the Y. W. Cabinet Training Conference at Salina report an exceptionally fine meeting. Many new ideas were brought back that will be helpful to our Y.

Mornings will be devoted to Bible Study, study of recreation and other things, and in the afternoons the time will be filled by hikes, picnics, and other forms of pleasure.
