Produce is and has been bringing as much in Greenleaf and generally a little more than any other town in the county, and the charges against our merchants were made out of pure spite. The above item, which we clip from theHmith organ of this city, is in full keeping with the Jieing insinuations and false repre sentations made through that sheet every week.

No merchant in thia city, we venture to assert, ever authorized, sanctioned or upheld the Journal in publishing its lieing abuse of us, or thanks it for doing so. In the matter referred to above we simply stated a fact, as we are prepared to prove, and called the attention of our merchants to the fact in the kindliest aanner, in order that they might be prepared by knowing the facts, to take steps to hold the trade which legitmate-ly belongs to thtm, instead of allowing it to go to other towns. And right here it ia proper to remark, that while we have ever labored faithfully to build up the business interests of our city and ourselves with something of success we are neither owned, controlled or under any special obligations to our businessmen any more than they are to. us: and. if any of them think by upholding the lieing attacks upon us through Mr.

Smith's paper, while they denounce us through the game medium for defending ourse ves through our own paper, they can build up their trade and benefit tbe town, that we are all equally interested in, well and good.
