It is said that A.

H. Dillon rubbed'Mr. Albin pretty hard. lies pect fully. Dock.

We clip the above-from the Leon Indicator. Tt was written by one of our citizens to that paper just as the -squib" mentioned was written to this paper. The editor of the Indicator is not responsible for the above, neither are we for the squib" which was written by our Eldorado correspondent. Mr. Dillon did attack through his' own intense ignorance of the manner in which correspondence to newspapers arc recognized and held responsible, and after we jstated that the author of the item was responsible for it as 13 always the case Dillon made a sort of dish-water apology for his unmanly and unprincipled attack upon us.

Now we wish it distineilj' understood, once for all, that these indecent attemps at misrepresentation by our enemies will not have the desired effect. We have announced that our columns are open to communications from any one who desires to write, governed by the customary" rules of newspaper publishers, and if Mr. Dillon or "Dock," or any other person takes advantage of the offer, they furnish us their real name as a matter of protection and a pledge of good faith. These little thut3 are cowardly and mean attempts to lead the public to believe the editor of this paper is fightingjhc farmers movement, but the authors of the attacks know to the contrary. Our sympathies are in direct accord with the farmers and all other legitimate business, but xot in harmony with those who are making these things a hobby for personal and mercenary purposes.

They naturally suppose that this is all wrong. Mr. Haines, the dealer here, hasendeavor-cd to right this but.

the company insist upon the same pi that they can sell all their coal, without regard to quality, at the price demanded Farmers in different parts of the county began plowing for corn last week. The snow Sttnday night put a quietus on farm ing operations for a while, but work will begin in earnest in a few days. We opine that it vill he very important to plant early tiiis season in fact it always is in Kansas- because high water of the spring season may prevent later planting until it is too late. This suggestion isiostly applicable to bottom land farms, though np-land seldom dries out sufficient to work nicely after a heavy rain as quick as bottom land. Early planting is the thing, any way.

One of our citizens who offers a good farm of 80 acres in this vicinity for sale, says he will invest the proceeds in a woolen laetory here if some one with sufficient means to put up a first-class factory, will take hold of it; he is an old hand at the business. Another gentleman interested in a large and paying business here, we have been informed, will give $1CQ in cash as a donation; others say they will help. There will be a wool clip this spring of 200,000 pounds in Butler count' so the business ought to pay from the start. Let's pull for a woolen factory this spring. Indicator.

Dear sir: In answer to your fail for notes concerning the peach crop, would say that I have examined the buds in several orchards and some quite recently, and find in the majority of cases the buds are nearly all killed, while in others, about one-half, or more than half are alive. In ray orchard I calculate fully half are safe up to the present time.

Auusta, Kax. March 7 1SS1. Er. Republican. In our last issue of the Republican-, yoiaid of the case cx-parte C.

J. Blanchard: In the habeas corpus case of C. J. Blan-j chard, taken before Judge Torrance at Wintield last week the Judge sustained Justice Keller's dieision in committing Blanchard to jail for not answering a certain question, but granted the writ of habeas corpus on an affidavit that he, Blanchard, could not answer the question without laying himself liable to a criminal prosecution. Pretty close quarters we should say.

I am able to state from positive obtained from the most reliable source that Judge Torrance did not sustain Justice Keller's dieision, nor did Judge Torrance sustain Justice Keller's action in any particular. Blanchard was release 1 on a showing made by affidavits, setting forth the arbitrary character of the proceedings held before Keller, which culminated in the illegal incarceration ot Blanchard. Judge Torrance lays down the sound doctrine, that no Justice or notary, has any jurisdiction to commit a man for contempt, simply for refusing to answer a privileged question.
