The residence of Sylvester Wise in east Edna was discover ed on tire at noon Monday, but Edna's volunteer tire fighters were soon on the grounds and with the chemical engine had the flames under control before any great amount of damage was done. The tire started on the roof and was probably caused by a spark falling on the shingles, as wood a Hie as burning in the heating stove at the time. In a double header game of basket ball at the auditorium Friday night Edna defeated Peru, making three straight games for our boys this season and two out of three games for the girl's tea'm. The Peru boys started in with a mad rush and our team suddenly awoke and played the best game they have played yet this season. W. Elliott Dead. P. W. Elliott, pioneer of Labette county and for sixteen years postmaster at this place, died suddenly at his late home in Red Pork, on Tuesday Dec.

Mr. Brown was taken very sick and was taken to the hospital in Indianapolis where he remained during the winter of 1862-63. His wife was permitted to act as nurse and cared for him through his long sickness. After leaving the hospital he received an honorable discharge from service and accompanied by Mrs. Brown went to Seymour, Indiana.

In 1870 they moved to Tampico, where they lived until 1883, when they emigrated to Labette county, Kansas, settling on a farm five and one half miles northwest of Edna. In the year 1901 they left the farm and came to Edna, where they have since lived. Thus for nearly forty years they have been residents -of this place and community. For the last 20 ear rs. Brown was in very poor health and for the last eight stands growing and taking care ot the crop.

"The Kentuckians" The "Kentuckians" featuring Xmas Exercises at Baptist Church. The Christmas exercises at the Baptist church will be hald Saturday night Dec. 23rd. A short but interesting program has been arranged and the old fashioned Christmas tree laden-ed with presents will be in (evidence. Santa Claus will also put in an appearance and help in the distribution of gifts.

All are welcome. Bazaar and Exchange a Success. The Bazaar and exchange given by the ladies of the Baptist church at Lpftion hall last Saturday was in every way a success. The gross receipts am ount Monte Blue, to be screened at the Princess theatre Saturday side is invited. Come and help swell the crowd and if you have something good a place will be given you on the program.

A treat will be given to all children present under 16 years old and all over 70 years old will also receive a treat. Surprised On Birthday. Relatives and a few intimate friends gave Mrs. Albert Mc Intyre a nice little surprise on Thursday night of last week at her home in north Edna. The self invited guests came with all the good things necessary in the make up of a big dinner.

Fried chicken was also included in the spread and it was a general "pitch-in." Everyone helped himself and if not too busy helped his neighbor who was next at the long table. It was Mrs. Mclntyre's birthday but we have been cautioned not to give her exact age. However, we will just add that she is two years youtierb.an hcjr sister, Mrs. H.

W. Long. A very enjoyable evening was past, and the guests departed, wishing Mclntyre many more happy birthdays. Orchestra Concert. Show your appreciation of having a good orchestra by attending the concert this (Thursday) evening at the H.

S. Auditorium. The concert is given for the benefit of the orchestra and as the admission is only 10 and 20 cents every seat should be taken. Come out and fill the house. night Dec.

The Edna team worked as a team and made a number of splendid plays, swelling the score 1 6 to 29. The girl's game was a lop- sided affai Qii team weeping everything before them and had the game won before the Peru girls awanened from theirtrance.

The score was 6 to 21. The Peru teams are made up of a live, wide awake, bunch of young people and they played a good clean game. They were accompanied hereby Supt. A. R.

Bell, who served as coach. Friday night Edna will play Tyro on the home court and Coach Mantooth promises good games and says the Edna teams will win. The fur season is now open. See us before selling. Edna Produce Co.

Hancock and other relatives were at her bedside when she quietly passed the portals of death into that place of rest that remains for God's children. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, three sons, Chas.
